I am an active 52year old. I played basketball regularly with high school and college kids up to 3 years ago.
While playing Volleyball 1-09 I spiked the ball and immediately went to ground in immense pain. Finally went to Dr at the first of April when it did not get better. I scheduled my surgery for 5-12-09.
4-10-09 dropped trailer ramp on my fingers. After two weeks my fingers were back to normal.
Had SLAP repair with a nerve block and ever since my fingers and hand have been swollen and painful. It is now 5 weeks post-op is this normal? Will it eventually go away? My Ortho said there is nothing wrong with the surgery.

Could this be complications from the nerve block, SLAP repair or even the finger injury?

I wish that I could help you, but here I am in the dark...Possibly another poster will know this information...However, seeing your Orthopedist says there is nothing wrong with the surgery, you are in great hands...I know one thing...Sometime it can take months to feel normal...A dropped trailer ramp can inflict a lot of damage...Give it some time...Good luck....

It could be related to the nerve block that was used during the SLAP repair. I suggest you get this checked.

My GP had a nerve study performed by a neurologist and there was no nerve damage. He prescribed a steroid pack and my hand and fingers felt great while I was taking them. When the steroids were gone the pain and swelling returned. I woke up 7-11-09 to swollen and painful fingers and numbness in all fingers as well. Today (Monday) most of the numbness is gone but some is still there along with swelling.
Talked with a friend Friday who said he still has nubness in his pinky 1-1/2years after shoulder surgery. He feels it was the nerve block also.
Where do I go from here???????????
