I don't have personal experience with using Topamax, but, it should make your migraine attacks less frequent and less intensive.
Most adverse events occurred more frequently during the titration period (when the dose is increasing) than during the maintenance period (the dose is established).
The most common dose-related adverse events are skin sensations of tingling, pricking, or numbness, fatigue, nausea, poor appetite, dizziness, difficulty with memory, diarrhea, weight decrease, difficulty with concentration/attention, and drowsiness.

What type of migraine you have?

Another possible side effect of Topamax is kidney stones. The doctors wanted me to try this but since I already have a history stones, even if you don't have a history it is still a chance of stones.

My "migraine" is very strange. The doctors have called it chronic. It is a constant dull throbbing ache from morning till night with no break. It is situated behind my left eye. I have no other migraine symptoms except for pain when looking up, this is also constant. Do you think the topomax will help with constant pain? I am hoping so. Hopefully the side effects won't be too bad. Thanks for you reply

No I don't get any visual changes prior to the headache. It is there even when I wake during the night. Nothing seems to aggravate it. Does it sound like migraine?

Pain in or around the eye, usually, affecting one side of the head, that is made worse with eye movements, is a symptom of optic neuritis (inflammation of optic nerve)
Pain with eye movement is a hallmark symptom of optic neuritis.
It is associated with a number of diseases, most notably multiple sclerosis.

Are you experiencing eye pain for more than 2-3 weeks?
Do you feel some body sensations like pricking, tingling, or numbness of your skin, for ex. in your arm?

topomax
Hi. I'm currently on Topamax for a similar type of headache. I have headaches that are constant basically in my whole head but worse around my left eye and sinus area (but I have had head and sinus CT's showing nothing wrong with my sinuses). My doctor has diagnosed me with migraines. I have been on Topomax for 4 months. When i was beginning the drug I was incredibly drowzy and had tingling sensations in my feet. Since you have to ween onto the drug, each time I increased the dosage, I experienced these side effects again. But for the most part those side effects passed after a few days once I adjsuted to each new dose.
Personally, topamax has not helped to alleviate my headaches. When I first began taking the maximum dosage of the drug I thought it was beginning to work, but really I am still getting headaches almost every day. I am going to the doctor next week to switch to another drug. But everyone is different and every headache is different. I really hope it works for you and that you can find some relief for your headaches! Good luck.

Migraine in the eyes
My migraine pain can be in my sinus area and behind my eyes, but it always makes my eyes sensitive to light. My dr told me those are the type Topomax works best on in her experience. It's working for me. I took my time working up to my dose of 125mg to avoid the side affects and don't currently have any. My migraines have been reduced significantly. Good luck everyone.

Topomax
It sounds like you have IH, which is why your doctor prescribed you with Topomax, I have the same thing. Its described as the worst migraine headache ever, that is constant, day and night. More pain with eye movement and pain situated around the left eye.
There is no cure for IH, just medication to control it. If Topomax doesnt work, its more likely to be cluster headaches or a migraine. quite frankly I'd kill for a migraine, this IH is awful! At least with a migraine you get a break!
Good luck

Topomax was one of the worse medications i have tried, although, i only tried it for a week, which people say the first week is the worst. I experienced bloody noses and all sorts of head pain that i never felt before. it worsened my problems and gave me new ones. but Topomax deals with migranes, my headaches by neruologist terms is called a muscle tension head ache that leads to migranes and more headaches.

I tried Topomax for over a month for headaches simalar to your - except mine is behind both eyes. Have not yet been diagonosed with anything yet. They are still investigating???? Topomax did not help me. I couldn't stand the way it made your food taste like crap - maybe that's why one of the side effects is weight loss. Can't stand the taste of food.
