Some Advice Needed Please Posted: 07-11-07 11:25am
Hi all,
I'm writing this message for some advice
please.
My mother who is 66 years old, has just
had an ultrasound scan & X-Ray on her
right kidney (the left was removed when
she was a teenager) and the x-ray showed a
shadow on the kidney, she suffered from
kidney stones a few years back and had to
have them flushed out, the hospital hasn't
said what the shadow is and is referring
it back to her gp.
The symptoms she's been suffering from for
a long time are, morning sickness, and a
pain in her side twice a week that lasts 7
minutes and if she is sitting she has to
stand up.
Any ideas what this could be?
Thanks

You did not really give a whole lot of
information, why was your Mothers right
kidney removed in her teen years? When was
this last kidney stone blast and when was
the mass/shadow found? Does she have an
appointment with her general practioner?
The symptoms you described as nausea in
the morning and pains in (which side?)
could very well be a number of things. I
had a shadow appear on an xray in my foot
and it turned out to be inflammation.

Thanks for the reply Fairy,
I'm not entirely sure why her kidney was
removed i guess it had failed?
It was today she went to the hospital and
had the scans done, she went to her GP in
June and he reffered her to the hospital
and after waiting 3-4weeks if not more she
had the appointment today. She had her
left kidney removed and the shadow has
appeared on her right, where the pain is
twice a week which lasts 7 minutes.
Thanks

They can do liposrtripy
on people even it it is only 1
kidney.suppose to be save way to remove a
stone. However if they arent causing any
problems they leave them alone i guess.

Just came back from the Dr's and the
hospital found nothing! the kidney is
slightly enlarged but there's nothing they
can do about that, but as they found
nothing it doesn't explain the sickness
and the pain?

What is her creatinine level? What is her
GFR? I would be wondering about how well
her remaining kidney is functioning.
These I mentioned are blood tests which
determine how well your kidneys are
functioning. I have one functioning
kidney myself and I have to be tested
every 3 months. Here's a site

Hope she's feeling better
