Hubby here again. Karin told me to start posting in Baby Talk instead of Pregnancy so I'm just following orders. I'm reprinting a blog post here along with a photo from today. Both are available at our website...

Staying longer in the NICU

(photo seems to be unavailable at time of posting but hopefully will show up later; link still works)

Brian has struggled most of the day with his breathing, so he will be staying in the NICU quite a bit longer than we had hoped. The doctors are running some tests on him now in order to decide whether or not to intubate him tonight. It’s looking very likely that they’ll go ahead and do that, so he can rest up and leave the breathing to a machine for a few days. This weekend would probably be the absolute earliest they would even think of discharging him. Honestly it’s looking more like next week at this point.

This is all really difficult for Karin and me… especially since we have to walk past the nursery and lots of happy parents and newborns every time we go down to the NICU. And then we see our little guy all covered in tubes and wires struggling to breathe and grasping at our fingers. It’s not easy, but it’s the way it is for the next few days. Karin will probably be discharged on Thursday, but will still be spending a lot of time there until Brian is ready to come home with us.

We did get to see his eyes quite a bit today. He was really checking us out. They look hazel right now, but of course that could change. More soon as we get more info…

P.S. This whole lowercase thing is really starting to piss me off. Is there any way to disable it. I belong to some forums too (geeky forums) and none of them have this issue.

P.P.S. Somebody fixed this for me last night. Thank you anonymous savior of hapless dads from involuntary draconian forum post "recasing". I really appreciate it!

Karin called this morning to report that Brian slept "like a baby" last night while intubated. So we're happy to hear that he got some good rest. I'm off to the hospital soon to see him and we might get to hold him this time too.

i'm so sorry to hear about the troubles. i'm sure the hospital will take good care of him but it must be hard for karin to have to wait and watch and not be able to hold him and bring him home. he really is her little miracle baby. she and i have the same due date and i'm still waiting so she is always on my mind. your family is definitely in my thoughts and prayers. it's really good of you to keep us informed here, i sure do appreciate it. you're both lucky to have each other. stay well. hope you bring that little bundle home soon.
