My child will be home schooled unless they get accepted into a good music or art prep school.

I dont have a problem with my child being home-schooled or going to public school...either way that would still be gettin an education.

But I prefer my daughter to go to a public school. So she can interact more with other kids. she'dl be able to work with other students and help each other out on assignments and projects.

There are study groups that homeschoolers can join so that they can do group projects. There are also sports teams, orchestras, and bands that they can join.

I was in 4-h when I was younger and I also was involved in numerous charity organizations. I never wanted for friends or social interaction.

I just think that the one-on-one that homeschoolers get is beneficial. I am in no way saying that public schooled kids are not as smart or as beneficial to the community.

Oh i know that homeschooled kids can still participate in school activities. I've had some friends and some ex b/fs who were homeschooled and they participated in sports, band and other activities at the high school. Some even attended classes that their homeschool teacher cannot teach them.

yeah you actually have the choice to do that with most homeschools
like for physical eduaction you could take the class at the high school

i thought homeschooled meant you learn at home, like, from your parent. it sounds like a lot of work for the parent if that is the case. i figure i'll do my best to help them after school and let them have a social network outside the home in their school. i want to be a teacher if i ever finish my second degree and it would be nice to work in the school where my child attends. that's how it was with my mom for a lot of my school years and now she teaches at the school where my niece goes. too bad she will be retiring next year.

so you teach yourself? or is there an actual place you go to for help? i know that at the university level they have that here where you can do correspondance and online and teleschooling (classes are on tv) but i don't know how the lower grades work. i'm just curious about it. i always just pictured it as a mom teaching her elementary school kids from some kind of workbook or something.

yeah they have several programs like that
you teach yourself and then you have tests
you can do the tests online or over the phone
you alos have like a personal teacher assighned to you that you can call or get help from online if you need help
they have 24hr online and telephone support

with mine you have the work books and the phampletes and you get books
you do the work and send it in and they grade it and send you transcripts and stuff
im takeing 10th grade level
alot of them start at 16 yrs old but sometimes they make excepions depending on your situation

After visiting the local public schools, I decided to send my child to a private school. It is a secular, art and music based school, where they do not do testing or grades.

I would love to homeschool .Kaylee just for the fact that .I'm scared to death of all the psychos out there with all the school shootings, etc.. But I know it probably won't be possible for me to do that when she's older since .I'll most likely be going back to work. That & I want her to have the school experience & interact with a bunch of different people.

The idea of public school scares me, because my experience with Kentucky schools was so awful. The education here is the worst. But if my child were to be homeschooled, I would pay someone to come to our house to do it. I'm going to be a nurse, there is no way I could do it. That or I would do what sillyakchick is doing.

It's terrible here. One of our high school .English teachers actually asked one of my friends once if he had anymore "stupid questions". Pathetic.

Hey hun....I've thought about having Maddi homeschooled b/c you know how our high school and elementary are gettin to be now. It's ridiculous with what the school district is doing. But you know Yuri he refuses me to have Maddi homeschooled. But i wouldnt have to worry about that when we get our place built up on his dad's land....Maddi will be in Elk lake school district which is better than Wyalusing so far...lol. I'm glad we got of out there just in time.
