Q: Can a Bobby Pin Be Lost In the Ear??

My mother contacted me today and said that she is afraid that she has lost a hair pin "bobby pin" in her ear.

She has been to the doctor and told that they saw a blood clot on her eardrum and that it should heal with time. But she is convinced that while cleaning her ear with a bobby pin a few days ago that she left the pin in her ear whil reaching for a cotton swab.
She believes that she might have pushed the pin through her eardrum with the swab and that the blood clot is trailing edge of the pin..

I would not believe that this is possible, but I have seen stranger things in my life, so my question is : is it possible to have a bobby pin stuck through your eardrum to the point that it is almost fully behind the eardrum itself?? And if it is possible, what is the resulting symptoms and treatment??

Someone please respond to this so my mother can rest at night..

Thanks

If she had a bobby pin stuck in her ear that far I would think that she would have a lot more pain than you are describing! There would have been an awfull sharp pain to push in it that far and she would have known what had happened when it happened. If she had just left it in there, it would have fallen out because it takes a lot of force to get something behind your ear drum. So basically it's possible to get a bobby pin that far into your ear, but you would know it right when it happened, not a few days later. It is possible, however, that when you clean your ear you can do it too harshly which may be the cause of the blod clot, but I would assure her that it's not the bobby pin.

Yeah I agree with the above post. If she shoved a bobby pin he whole way in her ear, she would have bled like crazy and had undescribable pain. It probably fell out and she didn't realize it.
