this is just random mumbling, but it's so sad. when i think about this, it really scares me, life can change so much in a matter of minutes and you don't even know it.

on june 23rd my moms friend (charlie cook) was on call as a police officer and he had his brother with him (who was 18 and training to be a police officer, so he was a ride along) and he took his seat belt off for just a minute to get his wallet, then he got a call that there was a motor cycle driving crazy on the highway, so he takes off after this guy, not remembering to put his seat belt back on. So he finds this guy, chases him all over the highway and it hadn't gotten bad yet (had it gotten really bad (and had he gotten the chance) he would have called it off like you're supposed to) but just as he reached the top of the hill on the highway there was a semi that hit him and made his durango fly into the battery pack of the stop lights.

he moved the battery pack like 11 inches or something and its cemented into the ground, he broke both of his hips, and his legs and im not sure what else, and i heard my mom say today that his aeorta got pulled away from his heart (or something like that) and he should have died then, but he didn't, and his hair was in the lining of the car.

Anyway, he was taken to the hospital in another town (considering our hospital here sucks) and he was in for about 5 days. there were levels (im not sure what kind of levels, im sorry i dont have a lot of details, i just heard my mom talking about it today) the doctors said that these levels should be around 15, and that if it reaches 30 then you're brain dead, well his were 80, so on june 28th they waited until all of his family and friends were there and turned off the vent, and he died instantly. it's just so sad to me, he had a wife and a 3 year old son and he was only 28 years old.

so the funeral was the other day, my mom said there were 50 motor cycle cops, and 300 squad cars full of cops there, plus his friends and family. and they went to the cemetary when it was over like you usually do, and at the end of that cemetary, his radio came on and they said "319" (which is his number) "319..." "319.. end of watch" which is what they usually say at the end of the day, but he never got to say it.

and this is what made me post this, theres a website dedicated to fallen officers and on it you can post something about him, and his brother posted this.

charlie,
I NOT ONLY LOST A FELLOW OFFICER, I LOST MY BROTHER, AND MY BEST FRIEND. YOU WERE THE BEST MAN AT MY WEDDING. I WAS THE BEST MAN AT YOUR WEDDING. YOU WERE THERE FOR BOTH MY CHILDREN'S BIRTHS. I WAS THERE FOR YOUR SON'S BIRTH. NO MATTER WHAT, YOU WERE ALWAYS THERE. YOU HAVE LOOKED OUT FOR ME ALL MY LIFE, NOW IT IS MY TURN. REST EASY CHARLIE YOUR SON WILL NEVER FORGET THE HERO HIS DADDY WAS. I KNOW THAT I WILL NEVER REPLACE YOU, BUT DON'T WORRY. I WILL BE THERE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T. YOUR WATCH IS OVER, I'LL TAKE IT FROM HERE. I LOVE YOU CHARLIE.

it just makes me so sad, i mean... his life changed forever, his wifes life changed forever! i can't imagine waking up one day and saying goodbye for my husband for the last time, not knowing that'd be te last time you saw him alive. im sorry im rambling, it's just horrible and im feeling really down and i felt the need to post it, i felt like it needed to be talked about.

and can you believe people have the nerve to call into the news paper and say "he should have had his seat belt on, we get stopped for that" (yeah you do, but youre also not in a high speed chase are ya?) or people video taped the squad cars speeding to get his family to the hospital after the wreck and posted it on the internet and on the news saying "look, theyre speeding" god people just irk me.

heres the link, hopefully im allowed to post it.

oops forgot to post the link lol

I Am So So Sorry~
Wow, I had to hold tears back while reading that.... that is so sad and so unfortunate, and those heartless people making such crude smartas* remarks like that--geez man you would think that civilians would appreciate the sacrificies that our law enforcement officials take when they risk their lives to make the world a safer and more sane living environment for us and our families. That is so unfortunate and my heart bleeds for the family of the fallen officer.... I live here in Charleston SC and we just experienced the death of 9 of our finest firefighters and I still to this day have to hear the mouths of cold people saying "gosh man how much charity work can do for one incident" or "those people had insurance policies already, they dont need all those donations".... amongst other inappropriate comments....It saddens me but we must move on and acknowledge that these heroes are in a better place now away from the dangers and negativities that they once faced on a daily basis here on Earth.

Hang in there

i'd want to punch someone in the face if i heard that in person, i don't understand how people can be so awful. they put a cross with flowers by the battery pack but the city is only letting them keep it there for a week. im actually kind of glad because i know people would be horrible and steal it just to be jerks and then we'd have to get mad all over again. i don't understand people at all!

Aw Sad

I think about that sometimes too, with all the terrible things we hear people doing around the world, how could they do it? etc. I remind myself, yes there are a lot of bad people out there, but theres also a lot of good decent people too.

Crying or Very sad

That's such a sad story, it's just awful. His poor wife and son! Sad

I can't believe people are being so insensitive about it - let's just hope they don't have to go through such a terrible ordeal themselves.

I have found out recently that the good majority of people are insensitive a$$h0!e$. I feel sooo bad for them. I know what they're going through. I went through that with my mum (not the car accident) but the brain death. It's very...gah, there's not even a word for what it is. The hospitals keep the people on ventilators and other equipment when they're brain dead and I'm not quite sure why. Because when someone is brain dead they are dead. It's sick to do to the family. Those poor things. Reading this made me cry. It hits too close to home. I wish I could help them in some way. I know exactly what they're going through. And people that say mean, hateful or even just insensitive things to them should really be beat down.

aww kay, im sorry Sad we love you here if you ever need to talk, you know that.

i agree that they need to be beat down, i told my mom that if they had gotten hit by that motor cycle driving crazy they would have complained about the cop not driving fast enough to catch him, or if their family member needed to be rushed to the hospital, they would have complained about not getting there fast enough, you just can't make people happy these days, it makes me sick.

his wife wrote a reflection on the site Sad

I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. I find comfort in knowing that so many are looking out for us. Each day is a struggle for me. When I wake in the morning(if I've slept that night), it feels like this is all just a dream and any minute you will be walking through the door, dressed in uniform, just getting off shift. Your son is the reason I carry on day to day. He is the best gift you have given me. When I look into his crystal clear blue eyes, I feel like I can see into your soul. He looks just like his daddy. Charlie, we will all make sure he never forgets you. I promise you with all my heart. We love you.

yep, you're right!
it's funny how people talk bad about cops and then expect them to be there when they call 911.

All of this had to happen because someone couldn't just slow down while driving! It is so sad! I am soo sorry. It was a very touching post. He was just doing his job working and trying to help society be safe and in exchange he lost his life. It's so sad. GEEZ why does this crap have to happen it just isn't fair at all it's so sad. Why can't people just feel safe when they get into a car. Why can't he just go to work and come home at night to tuck in his little guy. I feel so bad for his wife and his little guy. I am sorry this has happened it touched my heart. I will never speed again. (Not that I do go all crazy on the roads, but I usually go ten of twenty over) BUT really whats the point? Why rush through the roads and drive all crazy. This goes for ALOT of people though IE drunk drivers too.. How hard is it to be considerate of others on the road. IF some health question wan't driving so fast and crazy he would still be alive. I am sorry it just makes me so mad and sad to hear this.

aw dale (i cant think of your real name, im sorry) it makes me feel good that you don't want to speed anymore because of him and things like this happening, it really is a touching story and it's awful at the same time. i never knew so many cops died everyday, but if you look at that website it tells which cops die on what days, and almost 1 dies every single day. no its not a lot considering how many cops there are in the world, but it's 1 too many everyday.

Oh yeah way to many. They are just like me and you that have families, and lots of friends. Really.. I see them as very self less people who are just out there trying to make the world safer and in the process they get killed how dumb is that. IF everyone just could understand and slow down they could save someones life iwth out even knowing it. I was once hit by a police car going through a red light it was a total accident though. Like he had worked a long shift going back to the station.. Just left a bad call and wasn't really thinking. BUT who could blame him. He's just like you and me, but probably sees much more than i would ever be able to handle. So, he was out there doing his job and hit me. Were ALL human. I don't understand how people see cops as 'the bad guy' when they're just trying to lower the amounts of 'bad guys' and make our world safer. Its so dumb! I really do think that they are heros and by getting so many bad people off of the streets they save so many lifes. You would have to be a very special person to be a cop

sheriff's deputy, she works inside so i guess shes not as in as much danger as the officers who work outside. she does drive a police car though (not all the time)

but when she hears bad things she Has to report them, and one time someone came into arbys and for some reason TOLD her that they went and "popped" someone, meaning they shot him. so she had to report it andhe found out and we were afraid we were going to have to move somewhere, she was really afraid he was going to find her and shoot her when she was at arbys alone or something, itw as really scary.
