Q: 5 Weeks Prego- Have Had Cramping For 3 Weeks- Is This Normal

Hello, I'm 5 weeks along and have my first dr. appointment scheduled in 5 days (First pregnancy). For the last three weeks I have had consistent cramping that feels like the beginning of my period. I thought this was normal. However, after intercourse today I had some light bleeding so I called the local healthlink line and they said the spotting was normal but that I should get in right away with regards to the cramping. Now I'm freaking out...has anybody had cramping too? Let me know.
Thanks,

Extremely eHealthy
Cramping is normal in the early stages of pregnancy. Spotting can be common as well, especially after sex. Your cervix is very vascular and sensitive during pregnancy and sometimes get irritated with sex which can cause the spotting you are having. Also, at this point in a pregnancy there is nothing to do to prevent a miscarriage from happening nor can the doctors do anything. Just put your feet up and take it easy. Try to relax even though I know from experience this is impossible.

Spotting does not always indicate miscarriage. There are many women that bleed much heavier than you and go on to have successful healthy pregnancies. Good luck and call your doctor in the morning to see if he wnats you to come in any sooner.

monkey girl said it...cramping is normal in the beginning its actually how lots of women find out they are preggers.
And it is very normal to spot after sex, as well as cramp more after sex as well due to the uterus contracting.
I wouldnt worry too much unless the cramping worsens and the spotting occurs randomly.

When i was pregnant, i had not bad cramping, but it got a lot worse and started to bleed a little then it started to come a lot. I ended up with a miscariage. So go see your doctor ASAP. Dont worry to much though, minor cramping is normal. If it gets worse call your doctor ASAP!

5Week - I just posted the same question! I am also that far along and it's also my first pregnancy. I just called healthlink and they told me to go see a doctor, but I thought that was a bit extreme as I haven't had much spotting at all. I have read lots that cramping is normal, but I would like to be reassured by a professional!
