Q: Pain In Stomach After Drinking Liquor

Every time I drink mixed drinks (hard liquor and soda/juice) I get a very bad pain in my stomach, centered just below the sternum. It does not happen when I drink beer, wine, or non-alcoholic beverages, or at any other time with food or anything. It also usually doesn't happen if I take straight shots of the liquor. The pain doesn't feel like burning but almost as if I had just been punched in the stomach. The pain comes on gradually and then goes away maybe 20-30 minutes later. Aside from this I have no other digestive problems. I am really curious to learn the cause of this anomaly, I can't seem to find anything about it on the internet. Could it possibly just be a trapped air bubble or something? If anyone knows what it could be or if they have had a similar experience please reply.

Hey there,

i get the same reaction when I mix my drinks (but not when shooting hard a), and the same thing happens with fruit juices and soda. You may be sensitive to liquid sugar (have you seen how much sugar is in juice and soda?!), I cant handle it. If you like mixed drinks, take it slowly, sip and dont down it. Eat something like crackers or bread when you are, it helps a lot. I dont have any stomach problems either except this one and its more annoying than anything else. If you are really worried, see your doctor. Hope this helps!

Meg
