Hey all, i'm currently 17 weeks and 4 days pregnant with my first baby...I had an ob appt friday and I brought up the birth control subject for after I give birth...My dr didnt really give me too much insight on the patch(best option for me so far)...But she gave me a pamphlet and actually a whole sample package of the patch, to read up on all of the info....But im such a worrier and a wonderer that it's just not doing it for me....Ive been thinking about it and i've got a couple questions...I was talking with a good friend of mine and she just recently got on the depo shot so her and her boyfriend no longer use condoms or anything of that sort(both std free btw)...She used to use those spermicidal inserts, and they seemed to work for her..She never got preg lol...But I was wondering, if it was safe to use the inserts while being on the patch....Im not totally comfortable with only using one method of b/c, especially knowing now that both me and my boyfriend are fertile! She had 3 extras that she never used so she gave them to me....Buttt spermicide won't protect from stds tho correct? Both of us are clean, but just wanted to double check...Ive never been on any hormonal birth control before, just used condoms, so im pretty new to all of this....Is there any additional info I should be aware of? What was the worst side effect of the patch? Pros/cons? Where's the best place to put the patch? I'm thinking the butt because you won't have to worry about anyone seeing it, except ur man, no matter what u wear! Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated! Laughing

You can use spermicide while being on any other type of birth control. No, spermicide does not protect you against stds. As long as it is only spermicide it will be fine. You will only run into problems if you combine two types of hormonal birth control like the pill and the patch. This may be tmi, but you can just apply some spermicide w/out having to use an insert. He can put it on his...Umm..Ya know. You can buy it in a tube, there is also a foam. That would be perfectly fine to use along with the patch. I am also considering adding spermicide along with my pill. Good luck hun.

Thanks for the info sara...Wow so I can just over ride the actual insertion and let him do it himself? That'd be great..I'd hate to have to stop the "moment" run to the bathroom, insert, and then run back! Haha could u imagine? I'm trying to find alternative methods of nonhormonal b/c because ive got more than a slight allergy to latex condoms...And I dont feel comfortable using polyurethane ones...Have you used both the foam and the stuff in the tube? I just don't wanna be all gross and covered in real liquidy stuff...My friend said its more like a gel, unlike the lubes....I shouldnt even be stressin about this now, i've got a ways to go before I even have to worry about this!! Haha oh well, what are ya gonna do...Thanks for the input tho!
