Q: Is It An Ingrown Toe Nail?

Over the weekend I worked in my yard all day. When I took my shoes off I noticed on the side of my big toe it was swollen. Fearing that I had an ingrown toe nail I took a metal object from a toe nail grooming kit and ran it down the side of my toe to see if a piece of the toe nail was growing down into my toe. It looked normal, so I thought nothing of it. However, today when I got home from work and took off my shoes, there was puss coming from my toe. Again I took a good look to make sure nothing was abnormal, and again it looks like the toe is growing normal. So, my question is, do I just have some kind of infection or is it an ingrown toe nail? Question

Hey. Sounds like what my brother had. He had an ingrown toenail...Well...Part of a rugby injury that never healed properly (his toenail more or less shattered...I wont get into that here). But after he thought everything was healed well, the corner of his toe was bright red and sore. A couple days later, it was oozing puss. He put polysporn on it when it was red and swollen, but that didnt do anything, he went to a chiropodist (sorry about the spelling) to have it checked out. He had an ingrown toenail with an infection. Take a deep breath.....My bro had to have his toenail removed in order to cure it (he said it didnt hurt as much as he thought it would). Hopefully yours is not this bad. Definately get it looked at by your doctor as soon as possible....Good luck!

Most certainly it is an ingrown toe nail because I had the same problem a couple of months ago until I went to the doctor and had it removed. It is worth going to the doctor to have it removed, but take my word it doesnt hurt when they take it out it might burn but thats all to it. Embarassed

I got ingrown toenails several times growing up, even to the point they were infected. I would simply soak my foot 2 or 3 times a day in warm water and epsom salts and after a few days the infection and swelling was gone and it didn't hurt. I have since made sure that I do not cut my toenails too short or wear especially tight shoes. Haven't had any problems in years now Smile

I had 2 ingrown toenails on one toe at the same time, isn't that gross? I was limping because of the pain... Everyone at work thought I didn't have a knee or something cause of the way I was forced to walk. Just cut a v in the middle of your toenail. Even a small one, my mom told me that I looked at the v and said yeah ok this isn't gonna help. Sure enough it did. Try it and see what happens
