I've been having testicle problems for a while now. I'm 18 years old and I just graduated high school. Back in march during a tennis practice I first noticed some pain in my groin. At the time I thought I pulled a muscle. The pain got worse so I saw my doctor. He said I had epididymitis and that I needed to see a urologist immediately. I took his advice pretty seriously (who wouldn't?) so that same day I went to see a urologist. He said I had epididymitis, put me on penicillin, and sent me home. Over the course of the next two months, I was also on bactrim, zithromax, and cipro, none of which did anything for me. Then one night in may, the pain was so bad, and my testicle was so swollen I decided to go to the emergency room. I had an ultrasound done and the er doctor said I had a varicocele and a hydrocele in my left testicle. For the upteenth time I went to my urologist, and he gave me no information. He put me on celebrex and told me to wear a jock strap. I did some research online and I switched doctors. The fact that my first doctor failed to diagnose a varicocele made me realize that he wasn't too good. So then I went to a second doctor who said that I should definitely have surgery to correct the varicocele. He said that my ultrasound showed that it had atrophied and was 3 mm smaller than my right. This, plus the fact that it was causing me pain, seemed like a good reason to have the procedure done.

So last monday I had it done. The incision is about 2 cm long and it is on the lower left side of my abdomen and it's healing nicely. It's only been a week, and so far I haven't noticed anything unusual about my recovery (i've read dozens of horror stories online though). However, it feels as if the varicocele was not completely fixed. I still have that "bag of worms" attached to my left testicle, although it is significantly smaller, and it's still achy. I was just wondering if this is to be expected. Is it possible that the doctor ligated most of the varicose veins but that he missed a few?
