Q: Why Should I Be Pro-choice

1.There is no scientific consensus as to when human life begins.
2.Personhood at conception is a religious belief, not a provable biological fact.
3.Abortion is morally wrong, not true!!! Forcing a woman to have a child against her will is morally wrong.
4.The best way to protect the fetus is to promote the health and well-being of women.
5.Laws have never stopped abortion, but only made it unsafe for women.
6.Abortion is a private matter between a woman and her doctor. Human rights are guaranteed for everyone and are not subject to the whim of the electorate.
7.Legal abortion helps parents limit their families to the number of children they want and can afford.
8.Margaret Sanger said, "No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her own body." This concept is fundamental for women.
9.The risk of dying from childbirth is about 13 times that for early abortion, and the overall abortion complication rate is extremely low, about 25 times lower than for childbirth.
10.Teen sex has complex societal causes, including sexually-oriented TV, movies, and ads. Studies have shown that where birth control, abortion, and comprehensive sex education are readily available (such as in the Netherlands), teenagers have less sex, not more, and abortion rates go down.

You should be pro choice because it is not YOUR body, when it is YOUR body you can choose what you want but when it is someone else's it is their choice.

I couldn't have said it better.You just mistakenly wrote "pro-choice" instead of " pro-life".It is always someone elses body.That someone just cannot speak for him or herself just yet but I will.

Hmmm

I have a problem with the opinion that pro-choice means a woman would "choose" abortion. Aside from the obivious emotional dilema and pain this choice causes, Pro-choice is really about a political arena where woman's bodies and choices are under constant scrutiny. Religious beliefs aside, what happens when the politicians (all of which, but one are male and therefore would never have to make the "choice") make it illegal for a woman to have a medical abortion. What punishment would they subject a woman to? If we charge a woman then we should also charge the men that made the "choice to concieve" an accomplis and charge them as well. They made a choice too. If we ask the politicians to think critically about what part the men play in unwanted pregnancy then a whole new discussion comes to the table. If a woman is an accomplis to a robery and her boyfriend/husband kills someone in the process then she is also charged with homicide, soooo turn the tables and ask the men why they get to donate the DNA and walk away. The scars and the burden and the "choice" is for us as women to bare and not for politicians to debate.

I had a long time girlfriend that I got pregnant (who I'm no longer with) we sat down and both decided neither one of us were ready for kids. But as a GUYS perspective I also want half of the decision. It is MY KID too. MY BLOOD, MY DNA, MY GENES, MY BABY BOY/GIRL and I should just as much be involved in that decision. I was lucky my x-gf saw it that way and we came to a happy middle road on the decision and both decided to abort. Neither one of us wanted our own blood running around in this world when we weren't ready to provide it with the best possible situation available. I'm glad we have the choice to CHOOSE. Having a child is a very personal and inner decision and who is somebody else to say that they can be part of THAT DECISION? God bless the country that truly does provide us with the opportunity to make the best life possible for our families and ourselves.

I wouldn't listen much to what M Sanger had to say about anything. She started abortion clinics in NYC because she wanted to reduce the black population. She was racist to the core, look up her writings, not what doting followers wrote about her.

In an ideal world it is a joint decision, as it was in both yours and mine BUT when it comes doesn to it it is not possible to legislate for it to be an equal decision. As the woman carries the pregnancy the ultimate decision needs to be hers.

A man does not have to subject his body to the incubation and eventual birth of a child. A woman does. That is why the ultimate choice belongs to her and her alone.

Missing the Point

I don't think that I have made myself clear. There is more here than I can get into right now but I wanted to respond by saying that if a man were held equally liable for the decision, you would have a lot less men holding pro-life picket signs because they would have to have the same punishment they are willing to subject women to. I think the man that came on and made a well thought out decision with his girlfriend is more rare than diamonds but commendable never the less. Too many men sit in jugdement on a decision that they themselves would never have to make or be held responsible for. That's all for now. Shocked

1. Its not 'your kid too' it is a embryo, not a child. Get your developmental stages right m'kay? otherwise you look like and fool.

2. My Blood - oh? did you have transfusion with the woman impregnated? otherwise I assure you that you have no blood in her body from which oxygen and nutrients are being leached slowly each and every day.

3. My DNA - half right here. Technically its only HALF your DNA. The other half is hers.

4. My Genes - Umm.. hello.. dunno what science classes you took but.. DNA and Genes.. one and the same.. genes ARE dna. Building blocks of life; bodily blueprints.. get it yet?

5. I am glad you came to happy middle road and of course you are willingly contributing to her pregnancy; making sure she has appropriate medical attention; taking her to doctor visits; ensuring she has healthy nutritional foods to each; supporting her emotionally, paying half the costs of prenatal vitamins and doctor visits... right? you are aren't you?
