Q: My Pms Might Ruin My Relationship

I've decidied after my last period that i HAVE to do something about my pms, though I really hate to take medications. in the last 6 months or longer maybe, I've come to have such severe pms, sometimes up to 2 weeks before my period, that i feel i could quit my job, break up with my boyfriend, basicaly i feel crazy and out of control! It's gotten to be very unfair for him especially, and the pms excuse is a bit stale, though that REALLY is the case. I don't so much get snacky or bloated so much as i just have ZERO patience, restless sleep, and ridiculous emotional swings! I'm a nice and sweet person the week and a half or so that I'm not dealing with it out of each month, and once I start my period I feel completely rational. I really don't want to be on some bipolar med. like zoloft or wellbutrin etc. and I'd like to know if there are suggestions for something I could be taking as needed, to calm my nerves a bit and mellow me out when I feel this starting. Something I won't have to take daily, and that won't give me the zombie, stoned hangover feel. Any ideas, or anyone that relates?

That depend on the person.. I was on it and it felt like my heart was comming right out of my chest. I went to the ER it was so bad. I stopped taking it right away. It works for some.. Not all.

yeah... the wellbutrin, I tried that once. i began thinking everyone at work was talking about me, i was crying uncontrollably, and i felt overall panicked and paranoid. That was within hours of taking one wellbutrin. No thanks. Most of those medications should really be reserved for suicidal types and schizophrenics. People that are already a danger to themselves. Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Wellbutrin, etc. it's just being givin out like candy, and it can actually be really dangerous if it doesn't mesh with one person's chemical balance.

I had a similar problem to you. I felt like I was losing control of my life and I too did not want to go on medication if it was not necessary. I decided to try some psychological counselling, what they did was help me to understand my irrational thoughts during what I liked to call "crazy week" and also to help identify when I was about to have a mood swing and identify techniques that would help calm me down. It's worth a try if you want to avoid medications. However, if you are going to try this make sure that the therapist uses cognitive behavioural techniques, coping skills training, or relaxation rather than other methods of counselling (i.e. psychoanalytic or humansitic). Also, there is a possibility that you may have premenstraul dysphoric disorder, which is a severe form of pms. http://pmdd.factsforhealth.org/what/

If this is the case and you have exhausted all options, you may have resort to medication. Usually it is treated with anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, or hormones. I don't recommend vitamins, I tried that route too. I went to a health store and their natural path recommended high doses of vitamin B, which made me have palpitations. I only took it a few times but I later found out that taking vitamin B in such high doses can cause nerve damage if taken for prolonged periods of time. My advice is don't trust vitamins or herbs (or the people who push them) unless there have been clinical trials to show that they are both safe and effective. Just because something is natural doesn't mean that it is good for you!

I May Have Found Something!
I bought Calms Forte, a homeopathic sleep aid, from the drugstore (under $7.00) because I have trouble winding down after work and getting to sleep at a resonable hour, and it actually calms my nerves/anxiety great! also does not make me feel stoned or hungover at all-- and it is mild enough I can take one in the day and function just fine! I'll give it a whole month before I really can say it's just what I needed, because my pms has yet to start up. It's definetely a great find for mild sleep issues though, as far as I can tell.

Try This Out
PMS is a dreaded word for most of the women. Some people can't even imagine how serious it can become. In some cases it creates a rift in the Relationship. I have seen it in lots of cases.

I used to suffer from severe PMS earlier. Its not to say that i don suffer now but its far better now. I used to get irritated and used to yell at people for no reason. I searched for PMS Treatments and Remedies for quite a while and finally discovered these remedies.(The ones listed below).

Anyway, let me tell you the Symptoms of PMS and how we can control it(if not Cure it completely) with the help of some Dietary Supplements.

Symptoms of PMS -Discomforts such as Irritability, Anger, Headaches, Fatigue,Bloating, Breast Soreness, Food Cravings and Depression.

How we can control the situation-

1. Evening Primrose Oil Supplements: Itâ??s the best cure for PMS. Clinical studies show that the GLA found in evening primrose oil contains essential fatty acids that seem to alleviate symptoms.

Other alternatives are-

2. Eat lots of Bananas and Melons.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar also helps.

4. Fenugreek is equally helpful.

5. Flax Seed Oil Supplements.

6. Take Calcium, Vitamin E And Magnesium Supplements

Hope it helps all the sufferers.

Thanks For the Ideas
I just started the birth control pill "yaz" 1 week ago, because my gynecologist suggested it is proven to specifically alleviate the severe pms/ "pmdd" issues that I had described. We'll see. So far it makes me a little restless at night, and I feel a little tight in the chest, but, it has only been a few days. Thanks for all the ideas. I have also consciously cut down on drinking coffee, and drinking alcohol which can't hurt anyway.
