Q: Blood in stool : what to do ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on July 5th, 2007
This one is about my son (30 years old) who just called me and asked about blood in his stool. What could this mean? He has no insurance and is concerned about blood in his stool. What should he do and what could it be?

Causes of rectal bleeding can include : an anal fissure, colon polyps, Chrohn Disease, hemorrhoids, peptic ulcer, colon neoplasms, etc. You son should first request preliminary examinations by his general doctor. If necessary, further steps may include a gastroscopy and colonoscopy should the doctor see the need for diagnostics.
