Q: Could Tmj Be My Problem?

About February I began getting headaches on my right side. I noticed that at the same time, a spot on my right jaw, near the curve, would ache and I would catch myself rubbing it. I saw an ENT, he noticed mucous cysts in my maxillary sinuses and suggested they could be the culprit. Fast forward through a $7, 000 surgery. My jaw still aches, I still get headaches on the right side. Actually one day my entire mandible ached. However, I have had no clicking, popping, stiffness, etc... No problem opening my mouth. I do grind my teeth sometimes.

Constant jaw pain, I have found, can be rather depressing. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Grinding your teeth may be putting extra stress and strain on your jaw joint and muscles. This does cause temple headaches and as well as the muscular and joint pain. If not abated, this may result in TMJ. I would see a good dentist about the possibility of a night-time bite splint. You might also try a low dose of Valium or Xanax for just a few weeks to see if that will ease the grinding.

God bless...

Hey
you also need to protect your teeth---you should get a dentist to make you a splint to protect them from the grinding. Have you been diagnosed with tmd? if not you should find a good doc to help you out.

Hi
I agree a splint is a good idea, as Carol mentioned in her post. I used to grind many years ago and a night time splint worked for me for a while (bit through it eek !! ) Also you might be clenching your jaw which causes blinding head aches as well as jaw pain.

Good Luck

Splint?
A mouth splint might help you alot. You put it on you teeth at night to keep from grinding. See an oral surgeon or a facial plastic surgeon. Call your insurance company to see who is in your network.
