Hello,
Hopefully someone here can help! My father is 73 and a few weeks ago woke up and could not get out of bed. He had so much lower back pain he could not move and the ambulance had to come and take him. The night before, ironically, he had been helping my mother in and out of bed because she had a very similar sore back which she had recently been in
the hospital for. Makes us wonder if this was related - such as a virus or something.
Anyway, at the hospital they did a cat scan and MRI on my father and found nothing really to speak of. One disc was slightly tilted but the doctors said that had obviously occurred long ago and was not the cause of this problem. My father was in the hospital for about 10 days, unable to move. First they were giving him just pain killers but once they switched him to muscle relaxers he slightly improved and was able to at least get up with some help. They have now sent my father home and he uses a walker, but he is still in a lot of pain and not improving, though he is still on muscle relaxers every day. He describes the pain as a sudden "charlie horse" in the lower back from time to time, which is paralyzing. The pain radiates around to the front of the abdomen like a feeling of wearing a belt around
the abdomen, but the pain definitely originates in the lower back. An orthopedic doctor and neurologist have seen him recently and are stumped. He's been home for a week or two and has setbacks every morning where he doesn't think he can get out of bed, but with help he can usually JUST get up and can then barely move around the rest of the day.
This has been going on for 1 to 2 weeks since he got home with no improvement. No one knows what to do for him and he is desparate for answers. Any ideas from people in the forum would be great! Thanks very much....
