Hello
my father has been having this promblem for over 15 years with his lungs filling up with mucas. He's seen every specialist and no one knows what's wrong and they only prescribe medicine that helps temporarily. What can he do?
Thanks-

Mucas In Nose And Lungs
Posted: 04-28-04 17:40pm

Greetings,

i have been having a problem with mucas in my lungs and nose constantly for the past three years. Respitory specialist has ruled out asthma and placed me on a course of steroids and antibiotics to get me back to good health. I'm not ill but am still suffering with excess mucas in my nose and lungs which causes me to blow my nose regularly and cough till I clear my lungs.

Air conditioning appears to aggrivate my condition.

My specialist has told me he can only treat the symptoms and is not able to fix the problem.

Any suggetions. Smile

Mucas In Throat...

Greetings fellow mucus victims! I suffer the same as you and would like to tell you how I make my self better when it when the problems reoccur.

Here is my problem: My whole life I have suffered from sinus infections and allergies. Most medications only helped for a while and it took me a while to find the right antibiotic that would work. I tried all the usual stuffthen I tried a combination of Septra, steroids, nasal spray and decongestant. I was better within 1 week and symptoms stayed gone for almost a half a year! Unfortunately my symptoms returned when I had to share a room with someone who had both an upper and lower respiratory infection. I developed the infection she had. Since then I have experimented with other antibiotics but they have not worked. But there is good news, my doctor said he will try Septra again if the others failed.

Other people that had this infection I have now (the one I caught from my roommate while staying in the hospital) have all gotten rid of it through Bactrim but since I was unable to get rid of it with that I suspect it is a combination of a few things: my body does not like that medication, I have been told I might have a deviated septum, I have bad allergies which make any sinus infection worse and hard to get rid of, and maybe the strand of infection is resistant to the type of antibiotic used. Any one of these could be my problem. But there is one thing I am sure of: I have dark green mucus chronically and have been able to get relief for over half a year and the symptoms only came back when I shared a room with someone who had an upper and lower respiratory infection. I am sure my respiratory infection was gone and I even put my humidifier away! Since I am aware that the infection I caught did not have the same response to antibiotics that the others with the same infection had I am almost sure it is my body that does not let certain medications work so keep in mind that you can try other medications. You might also want to have your nose and sinuses checked for abnormalities which is something almost all sinus and allergy doctor can do for you.

In sum:

1.)If one medication fails try another or a combination.

2.)Keep in mind you get chronic sinus problems and stay clear of thing that can aggravate them as well as people with other infections.

3.)Be careful not to infect your nose or mouth by touching your face with dirty hands especially in winter when people spend more time indoors in community areas. Sanitize and wash your hands regularly and even be careful when you touch door and other common areas.

4.)Take medications as prescribed.

5.)Invest in a really good humidifier.

6.)Keep your air conditioner vents cleaned.

7.)Subscribe to an allergy information newsletter.

8.)For fast relief try a decongestant like Sudafed
and carry Halls cough drops on hand with at least 10 menthal, they can clear mucus in sinuses and open nasal passages. They work wonders for mucus

9.)And above all remember: If one medication fails try another. You dont have to suffer. The right medication should clear any infection and good hygein should prevent any new ones from occurring.
