Q: Suggestive Ways to Deal With Anxiety

Hello,

First-time poster here. I have been dealing with insomnia in a variety of ways since I started college. Ever since I started college, my brain has tripled activity and I can rarely get to sleep without some sort of supplement. I've ruled out the potentialities of placebo effects because some supplements work whilst some do nothing at all, depending on the sort of night I've had at work.

A little insight of my sleep pattern: I'm a second shifter, meaning the days I have class I wake up at approximately 11am to attend class and then go into work at 3:30pm. I don't get off of work anywhere from 1am to 3am, which is very exhausting on the following days I have class.

Now, I've been experimenting with marijuana over the past few years. I'm not completely dependent upon it for sleep aid because I can find alternate ways such as melatonin. But nothing reassures a good night sleep but marijuana. I've discussed this with a physician and he tried to immediatley alter my prescription with a much more dependent-forming medication like Lunesta. I'm not a huge user of medications and I don't conform with any other illicit substances. However nothing reassures a full 8-hour night of sleep and an empowered day besides marijuana. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a drug junkie or anything and I don't drink alcohol.

I've also discussed this with a drug counselor and she agrees with me. She states that as long as I am within the boundary of marijuana and don't venture into the long-lost world of drugs such as cocaine, metamphetamines, etc. then I am ok. I'm in such self-conflict right now because I've always been told marijuana is bad, however it is a prescription for sleep disorders in some states in the U.S.

Some relating experiences or any insightful advice is much appreciated.

Have you tried cbt? If you do the exercises like the tea form you will learn new ways of thinking that will relieve your anxiety and put your mind to rest so you can sleep again without chemical aides.

If It Works...
If the marijuana works as a sleep aid for you than I guess the only question is moving to a State that it is legal, right?

As long as you are using is soley as a sleep aid than I wouldn't worry about it, or advertise it amongst your friends because it will get out of control and into party mode instead of sleep mode, you know?

Just don't kid yourself and start using it "as needed", or "round the clock", and your conscience and well being should be okay!

Sweet dreams!
