Q: Drive By On Sunday...

This past .sunday, .baron had gone out to get some .taco .bell. His mom and her boyfriend were on their way to our house. Just to chill.

They(baron, his mom, and .darryll) pulled up at around 8.40. We set up the tv trays and started getting the food out.

Peggy(his mom) was sitting on the floor, changing .oni's diaper. Baron was standing up givin everyone their food. And .darryll was sittin next to me.

at about 8.45 we heard what sounded like thunder *right* outside our window!! I immedietly ducked down, and .darryll flew to the floor. Peggy lowered herself over .oni and .baron knelt down.

I immedieltly after went to the kitchen and got my 9mm and crouched my way to the front window.

We live on a one way street. As *soon* as I looked out the window, I saw a silver 2 door grand prix flying the wrong way down my street.

Someone in the neighborhood called the police and they arrived about 2 mins later. Me and .baron went outside just to let the cops know how many rounds we heard(25/30) and the description of the car we had seen seconds after the shots.

THe neighbor claimed he had seen a black male running in the same direction as the car we had seen seconds after the shots.

There was a black suburban directly across the street from our house that we didn't recognize at all and told the cops.

We went inside and about 10 mins later the cops knocked on our door. They said that the shooting had taken place 1 house down, on the corner. Nobody had been killed, and that 3 different guns had been used. The surburban that was across the street from our house was empty, but still running. They searched it, and found nothing so decided to just leave it there.

Needless to say, I was shocked. That there was someone in my neighborhood(with bookoo abandoned houses) possibly with a gun who had maybe seen us talking to the cops.

yesterday passed, with nothing out of the ordinary happening. ANd this morning, I heard a car door shut. I looked outside and saw the black suburban pulling off.

I probably should have called the cops. ::sigh::

Our neighborhood is normally quiet. The week after we moved in there was a homicide on our street, but 3 blocks up.

we should definately move, but have nowhere *to* move. THe rentals in .new .orleans are extreemely hard to come across without them being in the $1500-1800 range. and we can't afford that.

It's not just going on in .new .orleans though. It's all over. On the west bank, everywhere...so we really can't get away!

Oh my, sarah, that is horrible. I am glad you all are alright. I honestly can't believe how much rent is there. The rent sounds almost as bad as Seattle, WA and some other major metro cities.

I hope you stay safe. Has it been difficult to sleep these past two nights???

I'm not going to lie, the first night was hard. I had a dream that the people in the car had seen us peek out of the window and had come back to kill us.

I shot them through the window as they were shooting at us. After the shots stopped, a man walked from the back of our house into our living room. I pointed the gun at him and he said "don't shoot me, I'll kill you! I swear I'll blow your head off if you shoot me!" Needless to say, I shot him.

I woke up knowing it was a dream but freakin out about it because it was so real.

::Sigh:: the homes around here are sooo expensive. Rentals or not. If you plan on buying, good luck getting homeowners/flood insurance. It's next to *impossible*! No insurance agencies in .new .orleans, or anywhere near, are issuing flood/water damamge insurance. Which is *horrible* because of our active hurricane seasons.

So far, this hurricane season has gone great. ::knocks on wood:: .hurrican .katrina didn't hit until .sept 29th...so we're *def.* not out of the woods, by a long shot!

Oh my .God .Sarah!! That must have been so scary! I couldn't imagine living in an area where that is the norm. I couldn't imagine talking about it like it happens every day.

I hope you and your family are safe. Sleep with your 9mm close.

wow sarah,i'm sorry! I would have flipped out for real! I'm glad ya'll er ok!

You know,I know you love your culture and all but don't you think it would be best for you to move somewhere safer to raise your children? I'd be worried one of my kids would get shot by accident.

btw,I doubt who ever did it saw you talking to the police. If they were smart the would have hightaled it out of there and not waited for the cops to come round.
