Prolonged menstruation (menorrhagya) and intermenstrual bleeding (metrorrhagia-spotting) are not signs of pregnancy. A negative pregnancy test confirms that you are most likely not pregnant. A prolonged period and spotting can be due to functional or organic reasons. Functional reasons include hormonal disturbances. Organic reasons could include tumors, infections, endometriosis etc. You SHOULD visit your gynecologist for a consultation and to seek a diagnosis.
