I've had recurring back pain for about a year and a half now. I felt it for the first time after being a tourist in Mahattan that is, walking a whole lot for a few days. The pain would be a sharp pain on the lower right side of my back when I put my foot on the ground but only sometimes. The pain lessened then went away then came back, but never as painful.

I now notice the pain when I am working out a lot. The elliptical machine and walking seem to increase the problem. One thing is that the pain doesn't occur during the excessive walking, it shows up the next morning. Biking doesn't seem to worsen the pain. Floor exercises such as straight leg lifts and situps which raise part of my body off the ground are also too painful at times due to the pressure on my lower back. I also notice the pain when sitting sometimes, but only when the pain is also quite severe when doing other activities.

Anyone know what my problem is and what I should do to correct it? Thanks in advance for any help.
