asked by: DoctorQuestion on July 2nd, 2007
I recently found out that a man I had sex with has gonorhea, I went to the doctor to get std tests and told them I had exposure they gave me an antibiotic, just one pill. Did have alot of yellow discharge, wich seams to be fading, now I am starting to itch down there. I had sex and i bled a little bit afterwards, but havent started my period , did not have one in june at all. Can gonorhea cause you to miss a period?

First you can take a home pregnancy test to exclude possible pregnancy. If the test is negative, lack of a menstrual period can alert you to many possible causes, including gonorrhea. Gonorrhea can cause a lack of a menstrual period indirectly in the final stadium of the infection when the ovaries become surrounded by adhesions due to chronic inflammation. Yellow discharge is typically experienced during gonorrhea. Nonetheless, gonorrhea has to first be proven by isolating the infective agent- "Neisseria gonorrhea". You can consult your gynecologist to follow up with the necessary diagnostic. A Pap-test and microbiological smear will be requested.
