Q: Vasectomy's And Tubal Ligation

My dh has already told me that if we get twins then he is done having kids. I am not too happy about that but what can you do. I am trying to delay everything so I thought I would ask something. Isn't there some kind of age requirement for vasectomy's and tubals? I'm pretty sure there is an age and/or kid limit for tubals but what about vasectomy's.

i have no idea, but how would he feel if you got an iud (if you're comfortable with that) after having the baby? then you'd have 5 years or whatever for him to think things over.

if he is the one who is done with kids, did he offer to be the one to get a vasectomy? technically he could still have kids after that right? he just wouldn't be able to do it naturally. maybe i'm wrong about that but i'd have to be pretty darn sure it's what i wanted for myself if i were going to have my tubes tied. you sound a bit doubtful.

I am totally against either one of us having it done. That's why I have been telling him that he's too young and that he never knows what's going to happens. He is so hell bent on the fact that he only wants two kids. I will not have a tubal done. He did say he would have a vasectomy. If he did though and we changed our minds, he would have to have it reversed.

I have been thinking about getting the mirena after I have this one. Can any of you tell me about your experiences with it, or with an iud in general? What is your take on it not preventing fertilization and just implantation? I'm kinda leary about that fact. If I don't do this, I will probably just go back on Seasonale but I so don't want to gain weight again.

I don't know about the vasectomy but in .Louisiana they told my sister when she had her second child that she had to be either 21 or married to get her tubes tied.

Lots of docs won't do them on young women who only have one child. It's so easy to change your mind down the road. I asked my doc to do a tubal when .I was 21 and she wouldn't. I'm really glad now, but at the time, .I was mad about it.

I say, if he's the one who doesn't want anymore, he should be the one who gets the snip.

I work in in OB office. I have seen many patients get the Mirena. Some love it, some hate it. It really just is different from person to person. I have not seen problems with weight gain with the Mirena. Also, most women do not have periods but if they do have one, they say that it's the worst they have ever had! definitely do not do the tubal if you have any doubt.

Definitely don't have a tubal if you're not ready. My mom had one at 23, but she'd had 3 kids and her 3 pregnancy was difficult and traumatic and the doctor was of the opinion her body couldn't handle a 2nd pregnancy.

I'm on the fence about having a 2nd kid after this baby (I'm 29). I'm looking into an IUD, possibly the copper IUD since I had a bad reaction to the hormones in birth control pills.

personally i don't think any woman should lose her ability to have children (unless it is a risk to her health). that's the whole reason humans invented so many different forms of birth control lol. so i agree with you, don't get the snipping. if he's fine with a 25% chance of never being able to have kids again (naturally) that's his thing and he *really* needs to think about it before he rushes... yes i said it, there is basically only a 75% chance for the ability to have a vasectomy reversed. now i'm not quite sure where i read this at, pregnant fog in the brain and all lol. so please don't quote me on this, but be sure to make him check it out.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to be doing the iud after this one. I haven't got to talk to him about that yet. We have about eight more months left to decide so plenty of time.

.Have you found out yet whether you're having twins? (sorry if you've mentioned before, I haven't seen anything)
