Hi Lax. My husband and I have been seriously trying for over 8 months now with no success (although I haven't been using any bc for two years now). I have regular periods that come every 29 days. My doctor has told my husband and I that we are both "normal". We have been referred to a fertility clinic, and our first appointment is in mid October. The initial consultation fee is $125 CDN. I am not sure what the cost would be in CA, but our insurance out here doesn't cover all the costs either. What kind of test did your doctor do? I have started to use a saliva based ovulation predictor called MaybeBaby. It was rather inexpensive and is reusable. I started charting the results along with my monthly cycle, and have discovered that I ovulate on day 12. I have been doing this for approx. 3 months now. Along with this I have been taking a natural multivitamin, and have started to take MacaSure. Right now I am blaming stress, and am praying that I too can be blessed with a baby. Good Luck.

It is not unusual for fertility treatments to be uninsured. Find a fertility clinic that has a financial office to help you figure out what you can and cannot afford. Chances are the financial office has worked with others who have the same insurance as you. They can offer advice on the conditions under which your insurance does pay. For example, insurance might pay when your pcp orders a fertility test but not when your re orders one. Chances are your pcp will order a test if your re thinks it is necessary. Some fertility clinics will also offer a free consult when insurance doesn't cover it. Finally, as soon as you are pregnant, you go back to your ob/gyn so there will be no more re costs.

I'm hoping to get in to a fertility clinic soon. I've had a referral since April, but dh wanted to keep trying for a little while longer. Now, I've put in my appointment request and am waiting to hear back. Our insurance covers 50% of the cost and the only fertility drug covered is clomid. We know several people who had success with this same clinic.

My aunt was 39 and she really wanted to have a baby but she was single so she decided to try artificial insemination. She was with a fertility center in Barrie. She tried about 3 times and it didn't happen. She was concerned because money was an issue. Fertility drugs can be very expensive not to mention all the ultrasounds and blood tests, then the actual procedure, it all adds up. So then she met with Dr. Cadesky in Toronto and he said that sometimes they cannot tell you why your not conceiving unless they examen your eggs and sperm under a microscope. Sometimes the women does in fact ovulate but her eggs may have a hard shell on them therefore not allowing the sperm to get through. So then my aunt decided to try invitro fertilization. But even with invitro her chances of conceiving were only 40% but if she used my eggs (I was 28 at the time) her chances went up to 80%. So I did donate for her and she conceived the first try. She had a baby girl in Mar 07. But that process cost her about $12,000 cdn. In Canada you cannot pay your donor for her eggs you only pay for any costs (travelling and related expenses) but in the US the donors get paid anywhere from $7,000 and up. So there is definitely a big difference.

It makes me sad that so many couples have to go through this and its awful that fertility treatments are so expensive. Not very many people can afford them plus who wants to go in debt trying to have a baby.

I am sending you lots of baby dust and hopefully it happens really soon for you!!!!

Hi, I am 24 and my husband and I have been trying for four cycles now and we aren't pregnant yet. I have only been charting for two. If you aren't charting, you should try it! It has helped me immensely.

I am sorry that your insurance doesn't cover fertility treatments, I actually think that is unfair. If you are paying for an expensive policy, you should be able to use it for what you want!

Trying For #2
I have been trying for a little one for over 3 years now and no luck! Sad I have 1 child who is almost 6 now. About 4 years ago I got pregnant but had a tubal pregnancy that ruptured one of my ovaries so now I am having a very hard time getting pregnant again.. Deep down I don't think I will have another baby and that is very depressing but I will not give up. My doctor who took care of my tubal surgery said that I could get pregnant again but it will not be easy... Sometimes I think I should see a fertility specialist but honestly I can not afford it.. Best of luck to all of you!
