I recently found out that I have a cyst about 6.5 cm (which is quite large) on or near my left ovary. The reason I say “on or near” is because the nurse practitioner first told me it was on my ovary; but the doctor said he cannot say for sure that it is on my ovary but that it is “in the general area.” When I asked the nurse practitioner about this, she looked at the results of my ultra sound and pelvic sound, and said it's hard to tell by these two tests.
In the meantime, I've had a blood test done for cervical cancer and a biopsy done on a sample of my uterus and everything looks good - no cancerous cells found.
I am scheduled to have surgery the end of July, and the doctor cannot tell me if he will be able to just remove the cyst or if he will have to remove the ovary too.
So my question is this:
Is there any test (besides the ultra sound and pelvic sound, which I've already had done) my doctor can do to pinpoint exactly were the cyst is, whether it's on my ovary or not? Would a CAT Scan or an MRI determine this? I am not familiar with these tests, but a friend told me her doctor had done a CAT Scan to see exactly where her cyst was located before she had her surgery.
Any help with my question would be greatly appreciated, as I am concerned and just want to make sure I am receiving the best medical care possible.
Thank you.
