Q: Pap Smear For Hpv

How long has it been possible for doctors to determine if a a pap smear detects positive results for exposure to HPV? I have my medical records going back a few years and they came up clear with the smear consisting of normal-appearing epithelial cells. Benign Class I.

Does everyone who is exposed to a partner who is a carrier of HPV become infected?

Are some people immune to this virus?

Once diagnosed, do you have to simply live with this virus? It appears to me that is probably true.

Thanks.

I don't know how long hpv testing has been available, but considering the fact that pap smears are recommended for the very purpose of diagnosing abnormal cells, I'd assume this test has been available for a very long time.

Secondly, of course not everyone exposed gets infected. Just like you could be exposed to the common cold and not catch it, so do some people not catch hpv from exposure.

Once you have it though, it is true that you will simply have to live with it. It may go into dormancy and never show its head again, or you may develop cancer due to it. There's no way to tell, but doctors can help you deal with it and treat it.

Live with hpv is not sex-less! You can still have sex! is some honesty going to be required? Yeah, unless you're okay with spreading hpv to even more unsuspecting victims. Personally for me, no std would be the ending note for a relationship, even if I discovered a partner had aids!!
