asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 30th, 2007
numbness, tingling in hands and L leg and the more I think about it the more it is pronounced. i have no other signs of anything but am fixated on it being some terrible neurological condition. i want to stop the cycle of worrying which causes anxiety which could be the cause of the symptoms i worry about. i was never like this a year ago and now i cant stop analyzing every little thing. is this probably stress and worry related?

It is good that you are AWARE that you probably aren't experiencing any type of neurological disorder and that anxiety is probably the real cause for your symptoms. Such a condition is called "somatoform disorder". Somatoform disorder is a type of neurotic disorder wherein a person experiences symptoms of an organic disorder without actually diagnostically having the disorder. Becoming aware of the real nature of your condition is the first step in therapy. You can't expect only one visit to a psychiatrist or a mental health professional to cure the condition, so you might try psychotherapy again. Often, individual therapy is enhanced by group therapy so that you understand that in life, you are not alone.
