What Tests Can Be Done Vs Urinalysis Results Posted: 06-30-07 04:52am
My daughter has duplex right kidney and a
renal function of 30% on right. She has
massive scarring in the top section of the
right kidney, her left kidney is healthy
at this stage.
She has suffered since birth.
Currently we do do urinalysis tests daily
and they continuosly show medium to high
levels of Leukocytes,Nitrite,Protein and
blood, 25 days straight.
When her urine is tested in the lab no
trace of an infection is shown.
She shows symptons of illness with nausea,
medium to high levels of pain in the lower
abdoman on a daily basis. Her colour is
very pale to a blue colour on different
days.
We now have her on antibiotics and after 7
days her dipstick is still showing traces
of Leukocytes,Nitrite,Protein and blood.
Can anyone advise if we should e testing
her any other infection other than the
obvious EColi.
Can a blood test give us more detail of
infection. We have many specialist
scratching their heads as to why the
infection and how the kidney is being
scarred.
Desperate for any help possible to stop
infections and kidney deterioration.

Hi. Debbie - just responded to your other
post, but caught your story here. I
mentioned before I know others that have
lived a long, healthy, happy life with one
healthy kidney. I hope this helps you
find some comfort. Ask your Dr. if he
suggests a referral to a dietician (if he
hasn't already) - I know for my personal
situation I was put on a low - grade renal
diet to maintain kidney health...maybe
this would help?
I too have a situation that gives erratic
urine results. I understand your
frustration and hope you find your
answers.
What is duplex kidney?
My heart and prayers go out to you.
Wishing your daughter well -

Hi Debbie -
It's me again! Your story was so similar
it sent alarms off in my mind so I just
looked up Duplex Kidney and was amazed. I
have the same condition but I have never
been exposed to it by that name (usa vs.
austrailia?) My DX is called
Supernumerary Kidneys (my story is in my
post "frustrated 3 kidneys"). I am very
much in a similar situation as your
daughter as far as the doctors are
concerned. I have a few questions and
maybe I can help provide some more
educated answers. How old is your
daughter? Does each kidney have its own
ureter? Has she had a VCUG to rule out
reflux? How frequent does she go on
antibiotic treatments? You said she has
30 % total function on the right side -
does the duplicate function? I hope I can
help steer you in the right direction -
Wishing you and your family good health.
