Q: Boyfriend Denies Responsibility For My Hpv
asked by: Roberta777 on June 29th, 2007

My boyfriend says his wife had a pap smear and there was no problem four years ago, his girlfriend says she was tested and it all came back negative.

He also says he was tested for STD's eight months ago and it all came back negative. I told him he was not tested for HPV because there is no test for men.

He says that he doubts that I have tested postitive for HPV. I assured him my doctor said it is true.

He said, it must therefore be from me and maybe my late husband gave it to me and it has lain dormant for years and years. I said, I have had a pap smear and it came back negative five years ago when I had my physical.

He now says it must be from me and now I have probably infected him with it.

I said, we will just have to wait to see the results of when I see the gyn. Also, the results for your wife being tested for HPV with the new pregnancy.

Is it possible to have HPV and be with someone intimately and not have them get the virus? Are some people immune to acquiring HPV? Does it only show up later in a person's life?

We often get exposed to colds or the flu when people cough on us. And, we don't always get it. But, we don't carry that cough around for years. How does this work?

Thanks.

I tested postive for HPV going on 4 years ago. I have had clean paps ever since. My body still has it. I think it's one of those things that stays, but lays dorment (sp?) I'm not really sure on all the information on HPV. My fiance, and i have been together for 3 years, and he has never had any warts, or whatever. (That's the strain i had, not sure if it's all the same)

roberta i believe you should not like to him you gave me it and so because in your case it seems to be difficult to see where it could have come from. In my case i got the virus with this first guy i had sex with. I was sure it came from him because i was a virgin and i didn't had sex with any other guy until after i was diagnosed so it was for sure him. In your case you can't tell. It could have come from any of the men you have slept with as the virus can stay dormant for years and years and then suddenly come up. So it could have come from your previous husband or your new bf or you could have been the carrier and you gave to him, very difficult to tell in your case. I wouldn't worry about the who gave who. Just keep getting your pap's and you will be fine.

hpv comes in two forms, the one that give warts and the ones that there is no warts and cause cervical dysplasia (pre-cancerous cells)

they say that if your partner has had more then one partner then you most likely have hpv.
you can also have it for a long time without testing positive.

Yeah, there are many strains of HPV. Some cause cervical cancer, some cause genital warts, and some cause plantar warts!
