I had a one time possible exposure to HIV
about 7 weeks ago. Involved unprotected
oral sex performed on a girl who has been
known to get around, so i heard after the
fact. Also, slight insertion but only a
few seconds until i gained my senses and
pulled out. She then performed oral on me.
I recently learned about the acute
symptoms of infection, and started to get
scared. starting about 4 weeks after
exposure I started experiencing symptoms
like fever (100 degrees for one day),
headache, constipation and intestinal
pain, diziness, fatigue, and sore throat.
I am very anxiety prone as it is (OCD) so
you might imagine how stressful this has
been. Most of the symptoms showed up
(headache, sore throat) after I quit
smoking a couple of weeks ago. Sore throat
is the only thing that persists to this
day. I know that symptoms alone cannot
accurately diagnose HIV and i will get
tested but when will the results prove
convincing? and in the meantime, for the
sake of stress reduction, what do you
think my chances of contracting could have
been? Sexually, i am relatively
inexperienced, only 20 years old, and fear
the absolute worst. thanks in advance for
any feedback

There is a decent chance you're fine, but
definitely get checked to make sure.
Tell your doctor about your symptoms, but
other than that, don't worry about them.
They could be symptoms of so many things,
even something like a stomach bug. Most
people with HIV don't even have any
symptoms when they test positive. Many
don't have symptoms for ten years even.
So never assume the worst based on
symptoms.

I went to the county urgent care clinic
today and after waiting for about 3 hours
i got to see the doctor. She was very
dismissive and after about 2 second of
looking at my throat she said i had
"tonsilitis" "strep throat." I tried to
voice a concern that maybe these were
symptoms of something more serious, like
HIV and that i had other symptoms that had
since gone away but i have not been
feeling well for about 2 weeks now, maybe
longer. I mean, how could she have
possibly known from a 2 second gander at
my throat that i did not have HIV? She
prescribed penicilin. I admit it relieved
my anxiety for a while but then i started
thinking how sketchy this quick diagnosis
was. I wanted to take a damn HIV TEST!
they didnt let me. WHAT THE HELL!? Do i
need a second opinion, maybe a visit to a
family practice MD or what? Now I have a
headache, ear ache, extremely sore/can
hardly swallow throat, slight fever, and a
tight jaw. Advice, someone, por favor.
ps D * M N is not really that bad of a
word and bless hiv test really doesnt make
sense

You could look into STD clinics. See if
there is a Planned Parenthood near you.
They might be able to help you out or
point you in the direction of someone who
can.

until i get test results, im trying to
ease anxiety by thinking of other possible
diagnosis. Does mono have similar symptoms
to ars, and can onset of symptoms be
delayed as long?
