Do you curse infront of your child/ren?

Do you think its okay, or you try not to?

Are certain curse words ok and others arent?

How about your partner (if you have one), and other family members?

i try my best not to curse in front of my kids. i occasionally will come out with something if something really bad has happened (but not directed towards the kids- like say i stubbed my toe or something)

i swear like a trooper when they are not with me Laughing

I also curse like a sailor, but .I try not to in front of my kids. If .I stub my toe, or hurt myself .I will slip, but mostly .I say things like "cheese and crackers", "cheese and rice", sugar, darn, etc.

Cursing at your kids is not acceptable imo

I'm with the others, I try my best not to. But every once in a while one of those words will just fly right out of my mouth. Now my husband on the other hand, he doesn't even try. He just lets them fly, then wants to get on to his daughter when she repeats something he said. She's almost 5 years old, so she recognizes the bad words. But how do you get on to a child for saying something she heard her parent say?

Before my daughter could talk my hubby and I would curse around her (mostly jokingly...we joke a lot) but never at her, and it was never a lot. But once she got closer to a year and she started talking we watch very closely what we say around her.
I think if you swear around your child and they start picking up on it, that's just teaching them to be disrespectful.

My parents almost never swore around my brother and I as children, and swearing is to this day pretty taboo.

My father has only cursed once in front of me (my mother never has). I still vividly remember that one time because it was so out of character for him.

Anyways, I think it's best to try not to. When I was in highschool I regular babysat for twins from the age they were 9 months to 4 years. Their parents (mostly father) cursed around them quite regularly (possibly at them as well). By the time they were 2 the kids learned to curse as well.

Not fun dealing with twin 2 year olds having temper tantrums screaming curse words at you. Evil or Very Mad

i wouldn't want my child to be perceived as disrespectful, trashy, and like she was raised with no class when she starts talking and bad words sneak in there so i'm watching my mouth around her. i have a potty mouth but i'm also a good judge of situations, so i only use it around my friends. i do cuss occasionally in front of rowan, but i'm definitely not proud of it and i am working on it so that it won't be happening anymore. i heard a 4 year old say the f-word the other day, and it really sounded disgusting.

My parents cursed in front of us. I new to never, ever curse b/c it was bad. I didn't say a curse word until I was about 12 years old. My brother on the other hand was cursing at 2 years old to anyone and everyone. It was all in the way they raised us. We were raised differently. My brother always got away with things and I didn't. You can see the way we were raised in the lives we live today. That's another story.
Anyway, Jesse and I talked about cursing in front of our kids just the other day while we were camping. We both curse like sailors. We've decided to try to not do it as often and make sure our children know that it's not nice to say those things. They'll know that they're wrong and hopefully not use them.
It's something I've been trying to stop for a while, but bad habits are hard to break.

Re: Cursing Infront of the Kids
Do you curse in front of your child(ren)?

I try my best not to. I don't curse a lot but when I accidentally drop something out comes a word and I feel horrible. My child loves to copy me. Luckily he can't copy "sh" words yet.

Do you think its okay, or you try not to?

I try really hard not to. There are some words that some people consider swear words and others do not. I think that is very difficult when you are around other people. My son was watching cartoons the other day and out came the word "Je k." Not once but several times in less than a minute. I was a bit upset because it was just a cartoon that was on in the morning. My son hasn't yet used that word and I hope he doesn't. A lot of people, however, may not consider that a bad word. If my son used that word in a sentence, I would not be happy. We monitor what he watches and the cartoon is usually pretty clean. Again, that word may not be a curse word to other people.

How about your partner (if you have one), and other family members?[/quote]

My husband sometimes lets those words fly when he is driving. We need to sometimes remind each other what we are saying...make each other aware. During christmas time, certain members would swear and not think twice about it. They are a funny group of people but they really don't have a filters. I was a little upset about it.

I'm going to try not to cuss in front of my children, but I'm also not going to make a big deal about it when it happens because that's usually what intrigues a child into doing it anyway. Plus, I could duct tape their ears shut while they are in my care, but once they are over at a friend's house or at school, I can't control what they hear.

I don't think cursing is a terrible thing, they are just words, but I'm not going to encourage their use.

That's true. Sometimes when I accidentally curse, I quickly cover my mouth and say oops! My son seems more intrigued by what I just said when I do that. It's my natural reaction that actually causes him to be more curious.

I'll admit it...I do curse in front of my 3 1/2 month old. But I try not to. Its usually only when I get angry at someone. YAnd its not okay to swear in front any child b/c they would think its ok to say a curse word. There other ppl besides me swear in front of my daughter. My brother and sister constantly swear but they never listen to me when I tell them not to do it around Madisyn. My bro and sis dont listen to anybody ne more not even my mom.

We try not to do it, only because i don't want some nice elderly lady to faint at the foul things escaping the mouths of my children. But I wonder, why are some words OK and others are not? Seems silly if you ask me. My 5 y.o. knows when she hears a bad word on a movie and will look at me and say "Bad word!" The funniest thing sshe ever mimiced was when she was in the house and some friends were playing poker. Somebody said "gimme my money, health forum!

i'm already doing my best not to curse and the baby isn't born yet. i know he or she can hear me in there though so it still counts. i have to try not to speak negatively too. i always say bad things about myself like, i'm so fat or i look ugly today or i call myself stupid or clumsy. it sounds terrible when i think about it but it's a bad habit that i have so i'm doing my best to stop. i don't want my kid to say those kinds of things about themself so i have to stop doing it first. as for swearing, to me it's along the same lines. i think there are much better ways to express ourselves but sometimes things just slip out. i'll do my best to keep from saying bad words but i won't make a big deal out of it when i do, which is rare anyway. if my kid swears i will ask them to find other words to use and tell them it's because some people find those words offensive and rude. i don't really think it's cute or funny when kids swear so i wouldn't encourage it by giggling or having them repeat it like i've seen others do.

Same here. I say crap and d.a-m.n frequently which most dont view as cursing, but my parents dont like it. Occasionally caca slips out if I hurt myself really bad or something, but thats it.

bless? lol thats not what I typed.

I'm not a parent, but I do make it a point not to curse in front of children ever since my 3 year old cousin repeated one of the words I accidently let out. It tends to look pretty bad when you're in public and your child randomly starts screaming curse words.

Cursing
I have a 4 1/2 year old and a 1 1/2 year old.

I'm a terrible curser, I curse casually all the time.
To me it's just another adjective.

My Parents curse casually now, but when I was a child, I don't remember them using quite the same language, quite as casually.
When we all grew up (teenage years) it was not a big deal to curse casually, but god help you if you cursed at somebody in anger- that was not tolerated.
You could curse to joke, or make fun, or in the midst of a conversation- but in an arguement, no.

To date, my children don't curse, (I did once see my eldest roll her eyes and say oh, for f*ck sake, once, but she was'nt saying it to be naughty, or directing it at anyone- plus, it was a fantastic appropriation of context, so I let it go)
I won't be surprised if they did drop one in from time to time, but it would just be a word to them, they don't see us cursing in anger, so they don't use it in tantrums or whatever. Our job will be to teach them that there are time and place appropriate language and behaviours of all different types, and what's appropriate and where.

There is also zero reaction when an adult curses in our house there's now shocked intake of breath, or people trying to cover it up or "not in front of the children" comments- so they don't get the impression it's a "naughty" word to be dusted off and used for effect later at all.
