Q: Peritoneal adhesions after Hysteractomy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 28th, 2007
What can I do to help the pain and adhesions from returning? Are there any remedies, herbal or otherwise, that can help the stomach and back pain and the adhesions from returning? The pain gets so bad that I keep having to have these operations to remove adhesions (using method 'harmonic scapel'). This will be my 6th operation. Is there any exercises or physical or mental things I can do to help? Thanks for your time. Regards. Lyn.

Peritoneal adhesions are post operative complications experienced from your first operation-a hysterectomy. Some people are susceptible to developing peritoneal adhesions in the abdominal cave. The reasons for developing such peritoneal adhesions are unknown. Peritoneal adhesions could be very dangerous because the intestines can stack around them (volvulus) and cause strangulation ileus which is a life threatening condition. Usually there is no way that you can prevent adhesion occurrence. You can only heal the adhesions to prevent ileus with laparoscopic interventions.
