i am 18 years old and my doctor has just
told me there is a possibility i have
leukemia. i don't know if he only told me
this so that when all the testing is done
and its not i am very relieved or what but
its kind of hard to hear that when your
future is right infront of your face which
i know many struggle with daily with this
grim fact. anyways my white blood cell
count has been high for the past 2 blood
test. i am due in for a third in a month.
my doctor was astonished at the levels and
he mentioned they were higher than they
should be even with a sickness( i had
strep when the 1st one was taken). i don't
really know the numbers because he didn't
tell me and i haven't asked. also for the
past year and a half i have been sick with
numerous illnesses (pretty much for that
time i have been sick out of all 18
months, 14 months). i have been so drained
from it i can not function. i have missed
alot of school and recently work. i am
going to a ENT specialist on monday to
determine if my tonsils need to be
removed. i also bruise very easily. i get
bruises out of the blue on parts i didn't
know i injured. some are in spots i
questions hard what i did. i experience
very painful headaches that no otc
medication can help it and they have
increase in intensity over the past 6
months. i don't know if i should be highly
concerned or if i am making a big deal and
its something in another ball field i
would like some feedback. thank you so
much.

Hi
I'm not going to be much help here, I'm
afraid, as I can't reassure you that you
aren't suffering from leukemia. However,
there is obviously something wrong and I
wonder if you have told your doctor all
the symptoms that you wrote on here. Why
not make a list and take it along with you
- I've done that myself and at least you
don't come away realising that you'd
forgotten to tell him/her a lot of
things.
Lots of other illnesses can cause fatigue
- life itself, in particular. You say
that you are still at school and I guess
you've recently had exams, so that's all
pressure which could have adverse affect
on your health.
My advice is, go to the doctor, tell
him/her your concerns and don't leave the
surgery until you get a straight answer.
