what would make the perfect playroom for you?

i'm turning the kids nursery into a playroom. i'm moving all their furniture into my bedroom except their beds so they will have lots of room for toys.

any good suggestions on exceptional toys to keep them amused by themselves for when i tidy up etc?

so far i'm looking to get them a little plastic house, pretend kitchen and mini table and chairs for painting etc

Little chalk boards if you can trust them with chalk that is, have a corkboard up so they can put some of their pictures up, perhaps put a height chart on one of the walls. Hmm can't think of anything else my sister's done apart from what you've already suggested

i think those mats you can put on the floor with the little roads and stuff on them are so neat. kids just love playing cars on them. i think anything where they can draw or paint or do any kind of art is a great thing to have. costumes and dress up stuff is the best!! a puppet stand can be fun for kids if they are old enough to get the concept. all of those things are great for their imagination.

My sil painted her girls rooms so neat, I can't wait to try it when I have kids. One of the girls rooms is Dr. Seus, and the other one is Peanuts. She took pictures from a coloring book and copied them on a transpancy and then projected them on the wall and traced the lines. Then she went back and painted all the colors on them. When you walk into their rooms, it's like you are walking right into a story book. The paintings are from floor to ceiling. It didn't take her that long either. Just an idea!

Hmmm... I bet you could rent one, but I wouldn't know where. We have a store called Grand Rental and you can get just about anything you can think of from them. Do you have big rental store over there?

a corkboard is a nice idea, but don't you need pushpins for those? i think a cute way to display artwork is to hang a line across the wall (like a clothes line) and you can clip the papers to it with clothespins or some other clip.

i don't know how much work you want to put into it but they also make chalkboard paint and magnetic paint. when i was little i would've *loved* to have been able to write on the walls with chalk! the magnetic paint sounds really neat too.

I think the chalk board paint is a really good idea. My little cousin has had it in her room since she was 2 and it has entertained her for hours at a time. It allows them to play while being creative at the same time.

theres a special paint i saw on ashow once, a tlc home show, that is like chalkboard, u paint it on your walls and they can write on it like a chalkboard, might have to go to a specialty store for it but that would be really kewl. are u gonna have like the lil art studio with the easel and finger paints etc. u should make a craft bin with odds and ends and paper and glitter and buttons etc to make kewl stuff. i remember this stuff from preschool when we went to help out for early childhood education. they keep wrapping paper scraps , old magazines etc to use to make pictures on construction paper. u can makea kewl calender and make sun and clouds to like velcro or tape on for each day too.

if i was a kid i'd want a place to hide. something with walls, like a fort, made out of curtains or cardboard or something. that's just what i was into when i was little.
