Q: Dealing With Hpv

I have spoken to my boyfriend, who tells me he is totally clean as he had blood work about five months ago and couldn't possibly be the cause of me having an abnormal Pap smear with HVP with the cells already showing abnormality.

From what I have read on this forum, there is no test for men for HPV.

His wife is pregnant, and I have insisted that when they visit the GYN tomorrow they request not only testing for STD's but for HPV as well.

My doctor advises me that when I first had this outbreak of pain, itching, swelling, even bleeding, that is when she believes I was first exposed to whatever it is he has. He is not a guy who stays home with his wife.

He is a great guy and somebody I loved but now do I have to live with having HPV for the rest of my life? In some of the published information, it says there is no cure. Then it says, most people can overcome it on their own. Which is it?

Thanks.

You're right, there is no way to test a man for HPV.

It's true that there is no cure for HPV, and it is also true that some people's bodies seem to fight off and get rid of the HPV in time.

We get an awful lot of posts from mistresses saying they've gotten std's from the married men they're having sex with...

Anyway, on the issue of a cure versus recovering...

HPV is caused by a virus. Currently, there is no common way to kill a virus using medicine. There are a few medicines out now that can do it, but I don't believe they are for hpv. So, right now (to my knowledge) medicine cannot cure hpv.

However, the common cold is caused by a virus that cannot usually be cured by medicine... yet clearly you do not have the common cold for "forever". You recover. This is what the article is talking about when it says hpv is incurable, but that some people overcome it. Your body fights down the virus on its own.

^ Same idea with mono. If you have mono, the doctor can't give you anything for it. You just have to wait it out. But eventually, you do get over it.

i was digns. with HPV about 2 1/2 years ago. and honestly the paps that i had after that all came back normal. as it was said in another post, some women can fight off the virus, and alot of people go with out knowing because they dotn know they have it. unless your tested for it, you have no idea. and true there is no test for guys, the only way i believe a guy knows he has it is if he shows signs such as warts. thats how i ended up tracting down the guy i know gave the virus to me

Like it was said before, there is currently no test for a male, therefore, there would be no way of knowing if he was the one that infected you. On the other hand, because he is still sleaping with his wife, then there is the possibility that she gave it to him who gave it to you. You might not ever be able to tell who gave it to who and when.

**oh what a nasty circle it can be**

Most doctors can give you a treatment plan so that the symptoms of hpv can be diminished. I would suggest talking to your gyno about treatment options. They will have a good idea about which treatment is best for you.

There is no conventional cure, but you might find some alternative help. Herpes.com lists products used to treat HSV, but they also have at least one for HPV. You can also talk to a naturopath about killing viruses and getting your body to do so.
