I have been going out with my gf for ~3.5 years. We've tried many types of b-c. When switching forms of b-c, we've always used condoms to prevent pregnancy. However, back in Jan, she found one that she really liked. It is the NUVA Ring. Ever since then, we've been having unprotected sex regularly. An issue that we've always had was whether or not to leave the ring in during sex. She is afraid that taking it out and putting it back in would increase her risk of infection. I agreed so we had mostly been having sex with it inside of her. Well about a month into that form of contraception, we had intercourse with the ring inside of her and I experienced pain. It was from my penis rubbing repeatedly against the NUVA Ring inside of her vagina. After ejaculating and pulling my penis out, I saw a raised and red welt on the right side of my penis from the rubbing. Well, now it's almost July and I still have remnants of the welt on the head of my penis. Only the one large welt has broken up into a conglomerate of smaller bumps. It doesn't look like papules at all. It is not red anymore either, but still a little raised. Also, she has no STDs and I am her only sexually partner. I, as well, have been sexually active with her only over the past 3.5 years. She says it doesn't no bother her at all. She still gives me oral and loves me like she always has, but it is killing my confidence. Also, it got me to thinking, if we ever did break up, I would have such a hard time with my confidence and explaining to other girls what happened. What is going on and what should I do?? Can I fix this?

You should go to the doctor and get it looked at. If it happened directly after noticing you were rubbing against the ring, then it's a likely culprit. Whether it's physical injury or a reaction to the medication I don't know.

Either way a doctor should look at it, and report it to the FDA if it's a result of the ring. Take a look at the reading material (direction, contraindications, side effects, etc.) that came with the nuva ring and prescription. Maybe it's already listed as a possible effect. Always read them.
