Many of us can pinpoint how tmd started for us. How do you think it started for you?

No clue. I have never had dental surgery or dental problems of any kind at all. I've never even had a cavity.

I dont know how mine started, perhaps dentist, as after one session with a dentist my jaw felt out of place.
but then I am a major stresser and clench my jaw through out the day.

a Dentist Did It
A dentist did it to me getting out a wisdom tooth. He also injured the very upper part of my neck called the atlas. i am small and he was a big dentist. he dislocated the jaw, where it goes into the head by the ear.thats how it all began. and i can almost prove it too. cindy

I voted stress, but I'm not sure that's really the "cause." I just woke up one morning in pain and locked, but my bite was very bad even tho I had braces as a teen, structurally my jaw is not fully developed, I was a serious wind musician and had taken a very nasty fall the year before. But I also had just started a job that was new and stressful, and my closest relative got suddenly ill and died with no known cause except old age (72). So actually, who knows. I'm just thankful to God that my pain is manageable.

God bless...

Trauma
I had a fractured jaw many years ago that was not picked up on X-Ray and developed arthritis in both joints.
