No i don't feel that way at all. I know many many people who smoke pot and have been smoking it for a while now. They don't do harder drugs, as they have different effects, and what is so enjoyable about pot is that it relaxes you, most harder drugs don't immitate this effect. So think about it, why in the world would pot lead to harder drugs? In my opinion, alcohol is the gateway drug, people do things they regret while drunk, often including taking drugs.

from personal experience i would say no. I have not smoked mj in ages, but when i did do it i was never turned on to other drugs out there. The hardcore ones. I seen what they did to my friends. And i choose to stay away from it.

I used to smoke, and no I have not picked up any other drugs because of "hippies" who wanted to offer me a bigger buzz.

I have had the "kegger" guys offer me extacy, and lsd. If anything else, alcohol is the gateway, not pot.

I don't think so. When I used to smoke pot, that's all I did...never drank alcohol either.

it sounds like all of these people are fooling themselves. I have heard that pot is not addictive and that is NOT at all true. i have several friends addicted to pot that have also experimented with several other drugs. Pot is like the drug that joins all others together. Alcohol is also a gateway drug, but its legal. people smoke pot to come down from other drugs, or to start their night off to do harder drugs. In the end, no drug is good and pot ABSOLUTELY DOES have long term effects on your health and your mentality. And this is coming from someone who did it for years. No drug is good dude. In the end sober is the way to go. You will be happier and healthier. I do regret all the drugs that I did,pot being one of the ones I regret the most because it seems harmless.

Okay, did you read the difference between a physical addiction and a mental addiction? Pot is ONLY mentally addictive. If you can resist mental addictions then you won't be addicted to pot.

I won't deny it has long term affects because alcohol and cigarettes do too.

I don't think so. I can't tolerate other drugs, and I've never tried any hard drugs.

in my experience, no. i did a lot of hard drugs before i ever touched marijuana. once i started smoking pot i stopped messing with the other things (thank god).

alcohol is the true gateway drug. i wonder if there are any statistics regarding how many people drank or smoked cigarettes before trying pot. i find it hard to believe that someone would just decide to try smoking weed before they'd ever had a drink or a cigarette. for me it all started with alcohol, then cigarettes, then harder drugs, then marijuana.

I agree about alcohol and cigarettes. A person who has never somoked would be a lot less likely to smoke pot, IMO

Almost all drugs have natural origins; Marijuana just happens to be less processed. And, there are a lot of natural things that are extremely deadly. So the excuse "It's natural!" just ain't flying.

Agreed. Cocaine is natural. Opium is natural. Arsenic is natural, but I'm not going to have any of that. Heck, Wheat is natural but I can't eat that either.

If smoking pot led to other harder drugs then after 30 years of smoking it I should be a crack head heroin addict by now! Lighten up,folks, it isn't colon cancer or child molestation, its marijuana. Rolling Eyes
Relax.

stretch Embarassed Crying or Very sad you know if u want to try a bunch of different drugs then u will...if that's what u want to be in to. But NO i do not believe marijuana is a gateway drug. it may just happen to be the first drug dallied with (after alcohol, i'd guess) for many. I don't hear much talk about alcohol being a gateway drug though and i don't care that it is legal... it shouldn't be-- it is more dangerous and has killed more people than marijuana. Sad Sad Sad Peace and love Bobbette

The NHDUS and SAMSHA reports demonstrated nearly 5 years ago marijuana is definitely a gateway drug for even harder illegal drug use

The who and the what? Links and resources, please. I'm not refuting your claim, but since you're going against the grain, burden of proof lies with you currently.

The use of all illicit drugs as an adult depends on the age starting marijuana and the incidence of cocaine/methamphetamine/etc is much much higher when marijuana was started at a younger age.
