helpless

valkyrie is having problems...yet again

she has been extreamly cranky and sleepy lately, after she eats she falls asleep then wakes up and screams about 15 minutes later

she has also been spiting up a lot, almost everytime she eats she spits a good portion of it back up (i know its not all, but it really looks like a lot) sometimes she pukes (puke not spit up) and she keeps it in her mouth for a little bit its really gross

the only time she doesnt wake up screaming soon after she eats is when she spits up in her sleep

she pukes sometimes a long time after she eats (like an hour or more after)

also in addition to her gagging/not breathing thing (which seems to be getting worse) she also has been sounding like she is wheezing recently

this is really starting to scare me and i dont know what to do to help her

im going to call the doc on monday but i just feel so stupid doing it, because i dont know whats wrong and i dont really know how to explain whats going on, and if its a normal thing im gonna feel retarded because im so concerned about something that doesnt matter...grr im just so frusterated with all this

i just dont know what to do anymore

also that is why i havent been on much and why i havent posted many pictures, i havent really had time because she is haing such a hard time

you know what alicia, you shouldn't feel stupid about calling and asking the doctor because that's what they're there for. i'd be concerned if you weren't concerned honestly, i probably would be. you don't need to feel stupid, you're a mama and it sounds like your baby is going through a hard time, you'll make it through. just call the doctor on monday and explain it the best that you can, their job is to help you and hopefully that's what you'll get! help! good luck hun, we're here for you!

I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad and little Valkyrie is to Sad
I don't know much about babies (Yet) I think that if you have a feeling something is wrong, or even if you're just unsure you should call the doctor without feeling silly. Your new to this, and aren't expected to know everything there is to know about this kinda stuff.
You're worried about your girl nothing wrong with that , you won't look retarded!

I hope you ladies feel better real soon!
Don't worry about looking dumb , it's better to be safe than sorry!

aww... poor valkyrie (and you too).

this doesn't sound normal so i would definitely call the doctor.

this is probably a stupid question and i'm sure this isn't the problem, but could you be overfeeding her? that's all that comes to mind since i know she's already on a special formula, right?

finn spit up *a lot* in the beginning. it looked like he lost most of his bottle and it was everywhere. i think that started around 2 weeks or so and lasted for a few weeks.

do the doctors already know about the gagging/not breathing thing? what do they say about that?

i'm really sorry you're having such a tough time. hopefully with the help of the doctor everything will be sorted out soon.

try to hang in there! you're doing a wonderful job!

thanks, i honestly dont know why i feel stupid asking, but i do

bridget, i honestly dont know, i dont think im overfeeding her, i never force her to eat more then she wants to, when she starts letting it drool out of her mouth stops or just pushes it out i stop try to burp her and then tickle her bottom lip with my finger, if she doesnt open up i dont even try if she does i give it back and wait until shes done, i figure if shes full she will stop eating right?

i told a nurse about it when she was in the hospital and they said its because shes getting use to her tounge and breathing and th nipple and all that...but now im starting to think its something else because she does it more at 2 times, when she is sleeping laying flat on her back and right after she eats, it scares the crap out of me though, she stops breathing then a little later shes gasping for air

i just wish she didnt have all these problems, i know what its like to grow up in a doctors office and in hospitals (i had (and still have) a lot of medical issues) i didnt (and dont) want her to have to deal with that

thanks again, you all are wonderful

Could she be allergic or intolerant to something in the milk? I would take her to see the doctor too. They have special milks they can prescribe you from the pharmacy if necessary.

I know how you feel about being scared your child will end up with health problems. Ive been sick for a long time (thats why my username is sick_mama), and it was my biggest concern for jay, that he might have to go through all the medical stuff etc I have.

I wonder the same thing with the formula, maybe it isn't working with her tummy.
You didn't mention about burping her, could she have a couple extra burps in there that are causing the spitting up and crankiness? A baby will also think they want more and more to eat when they have a burp, then once it's up they realize they're full. We had this problem with .Jaylon too. We thought we got them all up, but he had a couple sneaky ones down there. We also gave him milicon before every feeding for awhile.
You should never feel silly for calling the baby's doc. Like .Terra said, it's what they are there for. I would call them.
Sounds like colic to me, which can be very frustrating.
I'm really sorry you both are going through this. Crying
or Very sad

well she is already on soy formula because she is milk protien and lactose intolerant

i burp her at least every ounce, usualy more becuase i burp her whenever she stops or starts drooling milk, which is usualy every forth to half ounce, i try to burp her until she either starts crying because she is so hungry or for at least 2-3 minutes

i was thinking it was colic before too but now im not so sure, her crys seem painful, she just doesnt seem like herself, she pukes a lot and not even right after she eats, her puking rarely has any ties to burping, shes been crying about 15-20 minutes after she eats, for long stretches of time

the thing thats confusing me the most is that she is gaining weight, i thought if something was wrong she would stop gaining weight

it just all seems weird

Did they test her for an intolerance to soy too? Its less common but still possible. I dont know about the burping because i breastfed jay, so i didnt need to burp him much, but it sounds like you are doing it plenty. Do you have the smallest holes in the teats/nipples for her bottles? just thinking, if not maybe its coming out too fast and shes drinking it too quickly.

Colic is painful for babies, its where their tummy hurts. jay had it for the first 2-3 months! every night he would cry for hours, sleep half an hour or so then cry another hour+ etc etc. it was awful Sad i would walk around the room, carrying him in different positions, rocking him standing up and sitting down, i developed a certain rock/walk movement that seemed to help the most -i must have looked crazy doing it lol. the other thing i remember helping us, was if i layed on the bed with no top or bra on, and layed him on my chest/stomach and relaxed. i dont know how it helped, might have been my warmth or because he could hear my heartbeat like when he was inside me. try keeping the tv on low too, for a constant background noise.

that sounds identical to my nieces first 6 months of life. they at first put her on soy formula because they thought she was lactostant tolerant then after many many tests they found out she was actually allergic to milk all together and so she cant even have soy. she had to be on a very specific formula that was prescribed from her doctor. you should really really ask if she could possibly be allergic to milk.

I'm sorry the 2 of you are going thru this. I'm not sure what to say.....but does the sound of the vaccum calm her down any? another helpful trick for me was white noise, like when a channel on the tv or radio won't come in....the snowy/static sound. that almost always helped .adriana sleep. now we keep a fan on in her room when she sleeps. sometimes it's the silly little things that work. i hope she gets to feeling better.

the dr did not run any test on my daughter to see about the intolerance. she had bad diarrhea and was fussy as hell which they said was colic. so i suggested changing her formula and they told me i could try it.

i'm sorry you are having so many problems alicia. it really seems unfair. i know how you feel though, feeling like you are getting ripped off from enjoying time with your baby because of all the problems going on. that is exactly how i felt with rowan, like i didn't get to enjoy her because of all the things going wrong. rowan always spit up a whole bunch (except when i was just breast feeding, if i remember correctly, those early months are all a blur now). and she still does a lot. i tried her a soy formula and it didn't make a difference. ummm i don't have any real advice i guess, i just want to say i'm thinking of you two, and i feel horrible that you have to deal with all this. we're here for you pal!

i dont know if they tested for a soy intolerance, i know when she was in the hospital they did a *lot* of tests but they never mentioned anything about that

i do have the smallest nipples those are the nes that typically come with bottles, especially the 4 oz bottles which is what we are using

ive taken care of two colicy babies before and they always had a different cry for their "colicy time" plus it usually came at the same time always, this is her pain cry and its usually only after she eats

i actually went and bought one of those machines that makes the noises (whitenoise, rainfall, heartbeat, etc theres like 15 sounds)

the only thing that seems to sooth her much is me jumping in the shower with her and letting thewarm water hit her on my chest

tanya, thanks, it really helps knowing im not alone, it still sucks and its really horribly fristerating not knowing how to help her but at least im not alone in this....no ones ever called me pal before lol

lactose free will do worse then soy, on that she will completly stop eating, shes allergic to milk protein and lactose free still has that, but thanks for the thought

i called the doc and they said try gas drops and if that doesnt help to bring her in so we will see

Oh man .alicia, I'm sooo sorry you're going through this with .val. You're def not alone in this situation. My little nephew had horrible acid reflux, and his mommy over fed him. So, when it came down to his intestines being tested, they were severely immature for the size of his body.

He's now 7 1/2 months and 30+ lbs. He's insanly large!

But he was put on this pre digested formula to help it stay down.

How old is she exactly now?

Sarah
