Q: Birth Control Pill For Painful Periods/endometriois?

I need some help here Confused I'm 20 yrs old and have very heavy excruciating 10-day periods and 2 of my doctors think I have widespread endometriosis (possibly on uterus, bladder, kidneys, colon, etc cuz that's where pain is). They've suggested a low-dose birth control pill like Ortho Tricyclin Lo. I'm not sexually active so I wouldn't be taking them for that reason, just to help with periods/endo.

So here's my question - do u think it's safe/effective to only take the Pill for a few days before each period to help temper the extreme periods? I really don't want to take them full time which my dr. doesn't understand but i have my personal reasons. Any input would be very much appreciated!!! Smile

i have been taking low dose bcp's for probably 10 years now, only taking active pills, no placebos to manage my endo. it has helped tremendously.

rymattsmom,
In your post it says you've been taking active pills to manage your endo. I just recently went to a doctor about having endo and he suggested i take my birth control continuously to help with endo symptoms. I'm on my third continuous pack and my breasts have been extremely tender since i started. I've been on this birth control for 6 years now, and have never experienced tender breasts (expect pre-menstrual). Did you experience anything like this when you started taking them continuously? Thank you!

Hi Cooster,
No, i did not have any problems with my breasts, but i have had to change bcps once or twice over the years for various reason, if it continues i would check in with your doctor. No other s/e's? maybe give it some time for your body to get used to the continuous regimine. But talk with your doctor, to make you feel better too. feel free to talk to me anytime!
