Q: Diaharrea / diahrrea & digestion problems
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 23rd, 2007
12yrs old, girl.

It started on a plane back from vacation.

I threw up on the plane, because my stomach literally felt like bubbles were coming and popping in my stomach.

So, for about a week, when I wanted to eat, I couldn't because my stomach would make this bubbling stuff. To top that, diahrreha {spelling I know}. So on the weekend, I finally told my mom what was going on. She made me eat dry food and sip gatorade.

Then about three days later, I gradually was able to eat more. But still, loose poop.

The bubbles finally went away, but the diaharrea didn't.

Now, I have noises in my stomach, and loose poop. It has screwed up my life. This never used to happen to me before that plane ride.

I put this in doctor question, and the doctor said I probably experianced some intestanal virus. (cant remember the name).

i read in Wikipedia that noises diahrrea could be a digestive disease, which scared me.

-Why do I still get this, and how can I make it stop?

Stomach, Ulcers, Gastric Bypass, and Colon Disorders Answ
Diarrhea is usually a sign of some type of intestinal inflammation. Intestinal inflammation is usually caused by infection (bacterial or viral and rarely by a parasite or yeast). Much rarer causes for intestinal inflammation are ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Those 2 severe intestinal inflammatory diseases have unknown causes, but are probably autoimmune conditions.

Besides inflammation, diarrhea can be due to disturbed intestinal absorption, or "malabsorption". Malabsorption syndrome can be due to many causes. During this condition, food is not absorbed completely (especially fats) and are expelled outside of the intestines causing diarrhea.

One final possibility for diarrhea is irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS is a functional intestinal disorder with no organic lesions. Constipation and diarrhea are the most common symptoms of IBS. Specialists believe that IBS is probably due to anxiety.

An intestinal infection can be proven with microbiological examination of the stool. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease can be diagnosed with a colonoscopy. Malabsorption syndrome includes a complicated diagnostic procedure depending on the cause. IBS is diagnosed when all organic reasons for diarrhea will be excluded.

You can visit your GP to investigate the cause of the symptoms, to search for the right diagnosis and start proper treatment.
