i just took a (well 3) home preg. tests-
all positive and as i await my first ob
appointment i am filled with questions i
wonder if anyone can even help me with. i
am not an alcoholic or drug addict and
would never do anything to harm a baby.
some things happened before i knew i was
pregnant to make me fear birth defects and
mental retardation if i choose to have
this baby. i am married, 38 and have been
taking over the counter allergy medication
fairly regularly the last 2 months for
sinus congestion. also, i did have a big
weekend a couple of weeks ago that
involved free use of alcohol before i
realized i was pregnant and have used pot
in the last few weeks.
i know this is a big list of bad things
during pregnancy and there seems to be a
lot of conflicting information about these
things individually and their effect of a
developing fetus. should i be as terrified
as i am?

i completely understand your paranoia (as
i am 8 weeks my self) all you need to do
is to cease your allergy medication if you
are that terrified. To be honest with you
the night before i found out i went out
dirinking with the girls. What my dr told
me is that it is way early for most of
that to cause any dammage and not to
continue that behavior.
Things that I was told are safe for
allergies/cold while pregnant:
Claratin, Benedryl, sudifed.
