Does Anyone have any potty training tips? my son will be 3 next month and he does not want to hear about potty training. i had him potty trained for a weekend and then he just stopped asking go. Yesterday in the car he asked to go pee so i brought him home and put him on the toilet and he peed and had nothing in his diaper at all. How can i get him to go to the potty all the time? i need help! espescially with the new baby on the way.. it will be a big help to have him potty trained.

from what ihear boys are harder but it might be hard as well as he realizes theres another baby coming you may have to lay off until the baby is born it depends, sitting them on the potty every hr is my guess. limit his liquid intake. have a reward chart.

What seems to help most people is to spend a full weekend doing nothing but potty training. Take him to the bathroom every 15 to 25 minutes and have him sit on the toilet. Some boys love to hold their pee pee and hit cheerios or something that floats with their pee. My son absolutely loves that!! Don't use pull ups. We have a digestive problem with our son and forced to use pull ups because of a poop problem. Due to this, he has reverted back to his old ways and doesn't like using the toilet. We can't put him in underwear right now or he would ruin them with his problem. Yet, when he is in underwear he uses the bathroom. Pull ups are just like diapers!

Your son really sounds very close. At least he asked. That is a huge plus. I really believe if you just did that for one weekend (it will be a hard one), that your son will be ready. Good luck!!

it will not only help to have him potty trained, it will save you some money:)

reward charts also work with most children. Never worked with my child as he could care less about stickers or M and M's. Sad

The weekend you dedicate to potty training, you need to eat, breathe, and sleep potty training. Like .Karin said, take him every 15-20 minutes and praise praise praise for accomplishments. Make it fun for him and he'll get there.
Expect to have accidents and don't get discouraged.
I agree with the pull-ups. They are too much like a diaper. One of the girls here said she tried (or someone tried) putting on regular underwear and putting a pull-up over them so the child still felt wet when he/she peed, but it didn't make a mess on furniture or the floor. That sounds like a really good idea.

I think that you should give your son rewards like everyone is saying. =]]

Hmm, glad someone started a thread about potty training. That's a good idea to use real underwear with a pull-up (I started writing depends!! Can you tell I work with seniors?) over it.
My daughter is 15 months old, and I'm very anxious to start potty training....but what is the normal age to start? She's a smart little cookie, so I think she'll grasp the idea of it pretty quick. But actually going potty in the potty will probably be another story! LOL

i think girls can usually start earlier, ive read books on potty training and stuff, usually if they can go overnight or through naps with a dry diaper then its possible to start potty training them, or ripping off wet or soiled diapers. My son takes his diapers off and throws them in the trash and i can hand him a wipe and he cleans himself , he will sit on the potty for a good 15 min but he has yet to use it but he still has wet diapers through naps and bedtime so ive taken a step back on the potty training for now

Thank you all for your replies... I've heard about the dry diapers at night, but my son always pees so much at night but i think that the cause of that is that he has to go to sleep with a cup but i don't know how to get him out of that... he just always needs it or he wont go to sleep without it so does anyone have any suggestions for that?

thats a hard one, you shoulda stopped it befor eit go to this point, my son doesnt go to sleep witha cup, limiting there drink after dinner like no juice or water anything after dinner, then he can pee before bed. im not sure about stopping the cup thing, we just never gave our son one when he went to bed, at frist he cried for a lil but now hes used to going to sleep.
