model that behavior. Show them what it looks like to be a productive member of society and use every moment you can to teach them, but make the learning fun.

there is no way to guarentee that they will be; you just need to try your best to set the best examples and teach them right from wrong and what the consequences are when you do wrong things.

Set boundaries and keep them. Telling a child , "NO" and following through can be very beneficial. It's a shame to see parents who cave in to their kids, b/c although it pacifies the child in the moment, this type of behavior does not mirror the real world, where limitations and disappointments are common.
