Lots of people are pro-brest feeding, but some people think there is an age at which a child should be cut off. At what age or stage of development do you think that should occur?

it really is up to the mother and child.

however, it makes sense to me that you would wean them at 12 months. that's when they get the go ahead for cows milk and that's when you wean a formula fed baby.

so to me, 12 months seems acceptable, 2 is pushing it, and anything beyond that is weird.

Until 12 months is great, if you can do it, even at 18 months it's ok. When they can ask for it by name, it's time to stop.

although I agree that 2 years is pushing it, but I wonder why is it that other countries feel it is normal to bf children long into their toddler years?

maybe because many countries don't have the nutritious foods that we have and a child would be getting better nutrition from breastfeeding?

That is a great point though, and shows how we allow our culture to decide what we think is right and wrong.

i agree 12 months.
thats when we take them off of formula and introduce more and more foods so i dont think it is necessary to breastfeed after that point. Also im in agreement with when they can ask for it by name, its time to stop.
