i had the same problem you have. we were trying for over a year and my ob/gyn wanted us to go thru testing. My insurance covered the HSG test because it does not nessicarily fall unter "infertility" and it covered the blood work, but the semen analysis was definatly not covered. You may want to talk to your insurance company about each individual test not just thier coverage of infertility treatment.

You may also want to call around to different fertility clinics. I wouldn't be surprised if the prices varied signifficantly between them all.

Have you been charting your temps? (bbt) Or using opk's?

I will definitely check about the different tests. When I called initially the only thing that I got out of them is that they didn't cover infertility. I specifically asked about diagnosis and I got the same response. But I will try again. Maybe I'll get someone more helpful. Also, did you end up doing the semen analysis? Just wondering on the cost as I have not called on that yet.

I have been charting temps, using OPK, all that good stuff. That definitely doesn't stop you from thinking that you are still doing something wrong.

if I remember correctly the semen analysis was a little over $100. I figured it was the easier of the tests. Heck he got a better deal, no other test out there do you get to have an orgasm On purpose.

Are you seeing a fertility specialist or is this being ordered by your gyno? an HSG (it is a sucky test btw) checks for problems with your uterus and falopian tubes and is used for other things beyond infertility and the corresponding blood work (check you for pcos and other things) most of it checks hormone/ insulin/ cholesterol and that is not always to do with infertility.

Best of luck to you both. Just keep the faith and keep trying. I was eventualy diagnosed with PCOS (after 3 years) and am currently 8 weeks pregnant. (we didn't even "try" that month) you just never know.

That cost isn't too bad. It's funny how guys think that having to do this is the worst thing ever. If they only understood what we have to go through.

My gyno is ordering the test, but he specializes in reproductive endocrinology. I am going to make a call to my insurance company on Monday to see what's what with the HSG. Keeping my fingers crossed. I suppose that as long as it is coded a certain way to the insurance, it shouldn't be a problem. We'll have to wait and see, but you have certainly given me hope.
