Vitamin D is important for maintaining strong and healthy bones and protects against the rickets and osteomalacia (softening of the bones in adults caused by inability to properly deposit calcium). People who do not receive direct sunlight for at least 45 minutes per week should make sure they are getting enough vitamin D through fortified milk and dairy products, or taking a vitamin D supplement like Calciferol, calcitrol, cholecalciferol, ergocalciferol or a multivitamin containing vitamin D.
The new research made by some specialists that vitamin D may be a powerful cancer preventive and most people should get more of it.

Re: Benefits of Vitamine D
I heard on the news the other day that it is the single biggest health advisory that any government could give... Because humans have evolved to spend more time out of the sun it means we get less vitamin d naturally...

Vitamin Shops all across canada have been selling out ever since...

Vitamins
Hey guys. Then again take care of not taking too much vitamin. It´s tested that some vitamins especially those of the fat soluble (A,D,E,K) kind, have a very negative effect when you take too much.

Benefits of Vitamin D
I got tested low for Vit D3 last year - The range my lab gave was [25-80] and I tested at 27 and improved to 42 by taking Cod Liver Oil D and then began taking BioTech Bio-D Mulsion Forte about 2 months ago and will get tested soon. I take 2 drops 2,000 IU per day but would not suggest anyone supplement more than 400 IU unless they know they are low. Dr. Mercola has good articles about D and testing. My Doctor wants me at 70 but I have read that the 50 range is considered a good result. D is one supplement that that can be harmful if too much is taken- get tested or just get more sunlight. Sunlight really is the best and it's Free! Just Do Not Ever Burn!

I have a D Deficiancy as well. My lowest that has been tested was 16.5 (16 is Rickets and Osteomalacia levels), this was 2 years ago. I was put on 50,000iu's a week and it's only ever gotten to 52 since then. 3 weeks ago I was tested again and it was 23! I also have Osteopenia in 2 areas and I'm only 35 and have a B deficiancy too.

Vit D is very important otherwise you will end up like me. My bones are thin and low D does not help matters. I will more than likely not be able to have children b/c also when you are deficiant in D your fetus can have bone abdormalities (Rickets) and you will have Osteomalacia as a result. Just my 2cents.
