I am nearing 30 and have had regular periods all my life until about 6 months ago, when I began to experience mid-cycle cramping, occasional spotting, and heavy clotting (chocolate brown and spongy in appearance) during my periods. Having read what other people have written here, it sounds like I may have a cyst, but I would really appreciate it if anyone who has also suffered my symptoms might be able to help. Thanks!

Intermittent Clots
Hi! You have my exact problem! I just asked about the same thing 2 days ago. Apparently we are not alone though because I got a reply from someone else with the same issue. I told my gynecologist about it but she didn't seem to be concerned because we did an ultrasound to look for cysts or endometriosis and I had neither. So I guess it is just another one of those thing that an unlucky group of us women have to face. Mad Mad Mad

My periods have changed completely in the last 6 years or so. When I was younger, they used to start very heavy, with excruciating back pain, and then ease off, last about 5 days altogether. Now (i'm 40), they are ridiculously heavy for two days, with lots of clotty bits, ugh, and continuous terrible stomach cramps (which I never ever experienced when I was younger), and it's all over in about 2 1/2 days. Then I usually get a bit of cramps and spotting about halfway through the cycle (whichis also annoyingly short now, 24 to 25 days!). Is this "normal"? Is there such a thing as normal?!

I don't think there is a "normal". I'm 26 and my periods have constantly been evolving from one thing to another over the years. I think you only have to worry if it changes suddenly, like one month it's normal (for you normal) and the next it changes completely. Otherwise it's probably just your body's hormones changing over time.

Hi I have had clotting during my period for some years now, I have also had an ovarian cyst and it did nothing except make my period slightly heavier and more painful, I have spoken to numerous women who have, as far as they know, never had cysts but do have clotting, my doctor also said all it means is that your womb lining is thick enough to make your blood clot and as long as it isnt painful when you pass the clot then it is normal. Hope this helps
