Well, if you have a hiatal hernia you probably have acid reflux because of it. Acid reflux can cause wierd tastes in your mouth and just make you feel gross so that could be what it is. Always ask your doctor or nurse if you have any concerns.

If you don't have heartburn then you don't have gerd. It's likely allergies. Get a biopsy done. If your white blood cells are overactive then it's allergies as they are reacting with what ever you are allergic to. It could be a food allergy or something new in you life that you are not used to... Have to started using something new. Like a feather pillow, new perfume, or laundry detergent? Have you changed your diet or been eating the exact same thing too often in a row? Try some Benadryl at night, just give yourself plenty of time to get over the Benadryl hangover the next day.

I've also been suffering with this for about a couple of weeks - and think I have found the solution. I've been gargling with water and organic cider vinegar (mixed)and also drinking it throughout the day. I put a capfull in a small bottle of water and sip it throughout the day. The feeling has certainly reduced and I'm hoping it will go soon. I've also been eating bio-yogurt which seems to help.

I have been suffering from this "Hairy Throat" on and off for a little over a year now. Usually only lasts a few days or so and gargling usually puts a stop to it, but this time it's been almost a month..I noticed that I have been getting a thick mucus way in the back of my throat. and I have pretty much decided it (for me anyway) is a sinus thing. prolly brought on by allergies..I noticed that eating hot peppers and spicy food helped some..and now,just because I just thought of it I tried some of that saline nasal spray. Basically salt water...It Worked!! almost instant relief! I still can tell that it isn't completely gone so I will be sure to do the nose spray pretty frequent for a few days and maybe invest in some sinus pills too. case it comes back again...Can't believe that I didn't think of it sooner. I really don't have a problem with acid reflux, just that hair sensation and the feeling that there is something always in my throat. I went to my doctor and he said the same thing, that acid reflux could be the cause. I do not suffer from heartburn, and I can eat anything I want.

Don't forget about your epiglottis! This is the little flap in the back of your throat that prevents you from choking. (you cannot see it) This may be inflamed. Try gargling with warm salt water for a couple days and see if it goes away.

to dawnie417 - I have the exact same problem -I do not have heartburn or acid reflux either. It is driving me crazy and I wish it would just simply go away. I am going to make an appointment with my doctor/dentist to see if someone can help me.

I've had this sensation for a week now! It's driving me nuts! I keep trying to grab hairs that aren't there. Sometimes the feeling gags me. It mostly feels like it's on the tip of my tongue or on my soft palate. Sometimes it feels as if fine hairs are wrapped around my teeth at the gum line! I've heard it could be allergies to dogs, but I've had dogs (the same breed) for years and I've only had this feeling once before. It just went away one day and I didn't give it another thought until it came back! Gargling, brushing, mouthwashing, eating, drinking, NOTHING seems to make it go away!!! If anybody figures out what causes this, please let me know!

I know you left this message over 2 years ago but I am wondering did you ever figure it out. Or are you still suffering from this. I have been suffering from this for nearly 6 months now. The exact same thing you described. Like there is hair on my tongue, in the back of my throat and yes aroung my teeth at the gum line! I have been to 3 different doctors and a throat specialist.....they all thing I am nuts! Please if you have anything you can share please email me.

i have this problem too. i am going to get an endoscopy in a few days. i had it 10 years ago and the diagnosis was i had ulcers- duodenal cyst. i have the same thing again along with the feeling like i have hair growing on the back of my tongue and everything points to ulcers and or h. hernia. it is not in your head(probably not in your mouth either but the sensation is that it is) i also feel like i am coming down with something- sore throat type stuff and my doctor said it is the acid triggering the mucus center.

I am having the same symptoms and I recently finished an antiboitic and thought I was having a reaction it it; or that perhaps it was connected. Its been a week today and it will make you loose your mind. I will keep checking back to see if anyone comes up with something different.

I made an appt with ENT but I'm going to cancel it. It comes and goes and I believe its tonsil stones combined with allergies combined with gerd. Mine started after Christmas holidays, where over like a week I gained 6 lbs. GERD. Now its spring. Allergies. Feeling like a lil something in one place then in another place then completely gone. Tonsil stones. In which case Ive found out, they dont always come out, sometimes you just accidentally swallow them so you dont always know thats what they are. Thats my situation anyway, hope it helps someone bc I know the level of concern and insanity this can cause!

Ive also learned, we cant focus so much on our throat. Its a tricky place and unless you have a big ole lump in there or like blood or something super crazy, its best to try to ignore it a little and see what happens. In my case, its much better now.

I am so glad to find out that others have this problem. I have had this for over a month now, can eat anything, no heartburn no acid reflux, just feels like hair in my throat, and sometimes in my nose. Did anyone go to the Dr.

I have the same feeling. I constantly scrape my teeth across my tongue trying to get the "hair" off. I feel like there is hair on the back of my tongue or in the tonsil area. I went to my doctor and got the same thing about the acid reflux but I also don't have problems with that. Have taken antacids just in case with NO change. VERY frustrating..but we aren't alone!

Been having same feeling few days now, today i feel a pressure in my chest as well..it makes me think that it is wrap in the throat passage, its horrible..best thing is to try and eat soft bakery bread to try and bring whatever it is down..feels better..

Same feeling here - for the past week - and on and off for the past year: I've had a feeling like a small soft pea-sized object is lodged in my throat and won't go down when I swallow - it sometimes feels as far down as below the Adam's apple region. Today I've had the hair-like sensations too. Very strange. No heartburn or problems like that. I did have a stomach bug directly before all of this...

If you still have your tonsils, you may have tonsiloliths,also called "tonsil stones". They are literally small stone-like formations that get lodged in the crypts in the back of your throat. I think they are caused by post nasal drip combined with inhaled debris or something like that. I get them and they are more annoying than anything but they cause bad breath and the constant need to swallow as it feels like there is something that needs to be swallowed or coughed up. I too believe its tonsil stones, after paying close attention to my own annoying symptoms for the past 6 months now. Yep, a pea sized something another in that same area then it goes away (which I assume is a good thing, I dont believe cancer comes adn goes then the annoying hair here and there which I think is post nasal drip/allergies bc it too comes and goes and so do my allergies. Went to get a nettie pot this am but they were sold out, Ive read thats the answer to these nightmare problems. Good luck, trust me, I know how frustrating this is. Same here! Thank god I found this site. I know that you've posted this over 2 years ago, but I've had this for around 6 months now. Pea sized lump that I feel as though I am swallowing. My throat feels as though it tightens at times too. Hair sensation on the back of my tongue. I've had a camera to check my throat and it's clear. I do get tonsil stones, but i normally can't feel them and just cough them out. Has anyone found out how to resolve this?

my 14 year old complains about this now and then, and NO, IT'S NOT acid reflux. I would suggest that all of you check into Homeopathy. Many times we get these weird "symptoms" simply because our body chemistry is off. He is going to try taking Silicea right now, and if that doesn't work we will try another remedy. i have also had the tingling hair sensation in the back of my throat and sumtimes it feels like a piece of popcorn or like its moving around. i went to the doctor today and he said i prob have acid reflux, which is a common cause of that sympton. i told him that i get very mild heartburn and not often but he gave me a prescription neway. but he stuck a tube down my throat through my nose, and there was nothing there. so relax guys its probably nuthing serious. i figure itll just go away on its own...part of being a living being is having weird but harmless discomforts i guess

I have the same issues!! I always feel like there is something in my throat, but the hair sensation has only been the last week-2weeks!! Does any one elses tounge look weird in the way back? Almost bumpy?

YES!! Weird and bumpy. I thought I was going crazy!! I am constantly trying to remove fine hairs from my tongue. It is really freaking me out. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I had this problem when I was about 7 years old. I coughed and gagged, kept looking for hair in my mouth toward the back and nothing was there. No hair. Mom took me to the doctor and he said ,I was eating too much salt, pickles, and so forth. I got off all the salt pickles, chips, and it cleared up in about a week, maybe 2. This really is the cause of that hair feeling in your mouth at least it was for me. I got off the salt and it cleared up and went away. I now watch my salt. Because some people are more susceptible than others to this problem. Hope this helps, it worked for me. I am now 16 and no problem. God bless!

I' ve had the same issue for months now and have seen a doctor who was highly perplexed. I do have pets, and I wondered about the possibility of pet dander, urine or feces turning releasing spores into the air. So I put some pet feces in a plastic container and a month later it grew hair which is about 4 inches long now. I took pictures of it and showed it to the doctor & vetenarian who are amazed with no answer. What now?

I am now suffering with this as well. I went to the hospital because I seriously thought I was going to choke to death. I feel like I have a lump in my throat, that moves a little, my throat is sore, I can't swallow and at the back of my tongue it feels like I have little hairs and a few raised bumps. They did x-rays and looked in my mouth and said nothing was out of the ordinary. The hospital told me it was reflux and hiatal hernia. They put me on Prevacid. No change. I realized today I can no longer taste anything. I am calling my doctor tomorrow for a throat culture. I am beginning to wonder if this is yeast/thrush infection affecting my mouth and throat. What did anyone else find out?

It is such a relief to not be the only one with this feeling of hair in the back of the mouth. I really sympathise with you all, it is driving me crazy. I have not been to the doctor but think maybe I should, just feel a bit silly going for this reason. I have recently found out I am pregnant and it seems to have coincided, is this the same for anyone else? I have never had acid problems. I have been struggling with this hair thing. I cannot get rid of this feeling like there is hair in my mouth, it is driving me nuts.I feel it more on the tip of my tongue. I do however suffer with acid reflux disease, however, I just recently got switched to nexium. But nothing is helping with this issue. I am going to the Dr on the 22nd of July and I will let you all know what the Dr. says. A lot of you have said that this may be a cause from acid reflux, however, I am wondering if they increase my dosage, if this will go away.
